Porta Band saw blade jumps off

Model 724 Rockwell Porta Band saw has a problem keeping the cutting blade on. It walks off the saw during operation. Tried new blade - same problem. Reversed rubber drive belts - same problem. I don't see a tracking adjustment on the saw.

Saw has never been dropped. Blade slowly walks off both wheels at the same time (neither wheel seems to be the leader). Cannot locate any tracking adjustment anywhere, even after completely removing the front wheel.

Reversing one rubber tire and leaving the other one alone worked like a champ!!! Thanks so much for this great solution.

has the saw been dropped? and also which wheel does the blade come off of first. There is a tracking adjustment under the front wheel.

I had this problem on a used model 725 that I bought. Apparently the rubber tires on the drive wheels develop a bit of a memory after sitting for a while with tension on the blade. I tried cleaning the tires to no avail. Then I removed both tires, flipped them over and re-installed. Still not fixed. Then I put only one back to the original position and the problem was solved. Other than the frustration of trying several times, I was out nothing and I got quite proficient at taking the blade in and out. The saw has worked fine ever since. I hope this simple (and free) solution works for you.

Go to AceToolRepair.com and in the upper right hand corner type in your model number. The tensioning bar is position 103 under the front wheel. As a thought are both axles tight? You can in a pinch put a small shim under the back (towards the inside of tool) the flange of the axle. Look at the breakdown first though. Let me know

How much does a rockwell 14" band saw cost?

It has been discontinued by Delta. It would be hard to find replacement parts for this band saw. I think Rockwell 28-20C would cost $100-200.

Jammed my 6230 bandsaw during a cut and now it won't start. Are their fuses I can replace?

Go to Milwaukee Tool website and try to check if you can download a manual or electrical diagram there. You can call or email them. Check the motor capacitor.
Are you using an old or new band saw blade? If it's old/dull, try different blade. If it's new, the weld might be really bad. Old Blade and Bad weld can cause the blade to jump off. I purchased band saw blades on www.sawblade.com . Great quality blades; they have porta band blades. Call them.

I have an old rockwell 14" bandsaw and am having

Follow these instructions, but before adjusting the guides see the link below.
It sounds like you have not correctly adjusted the guide blocks that ride on either side of the blade, both above and below the table. These small rectangular blocks can be adjusted by loosening the allen set screw in the guide that holds them in place. They should be pressed in against the blade lightly, without deflecting the path of the blade out of square to the table. (You may first have to sand the ends of the guide blocks square if they are grooved from use. Use a belt sander and a pair of vise grips to hold the blocks while you square them off.) Anyway, the guide blocks should allow the blade to run smoothly, (you might hear a tick tick of the weld passing through the blocks), but will not allow the blade to deflect from side to side. Correctly adjusted, they keep the blade aligned with the bearing behind it, and prevent the problem you describe.
Only after you have correctly adjusted these guides just behind the set of the teeth, and the blade is turning freely by hand when you spin the upper wheel, do you bring the bearings in to kiss the back edge of the blade. Make sure the bearings are lubed to spin freely with a little bearing lube or wd40, then bring both the uppper and lower bearings in until they almost spin or just barely spin when the blade is turned by hand. When you exert a little pressure during cutting they will then hold the blade in place between the guide blocks, so the blocks don't wear the teeth away. Please see this link for detailed instructions I gave another user. (possibly also here) They will apply to your saw as well. If you have any questions or further probelms, write back. You may also wish to check here for a pdf manual for your saw.(check both rockwell and delta).
If you take some care to properly tune the saw, you will get much beter cuts and the saw will be a joy to use.

Just purchased a 6230 porta band saw and the blade keeps jumping off. Put the blade back on and as soon as you touch the material the blade jumps off.

could be a couple problems, first the blade could be bad, the tires that are on the wheels, a loose axle bolt or the frount housing might be bent. First try another blade and watch for which pulley it rolls off of. Next try to wobble the pulleys and if you can the axle bolt has loosened, I use an impact driver to lock them in place along with loctite. Next if the above are OK check the front housing for being bent (that is a common thing) from the housing hitting after cutting a piece of steel. Let me know if you need more assistance.

Manual or info on a rockwell 28380 14" band saw

I can't find one for the exact model number you have, but there are a lot of manuals for the same era bandsaws available as PDF downloads at this site. Perhaps another manual for a similar machine will help answer most of your questions, in lieu of the correct one...
Have a look around there, though, at both the Delta and Rockwell listings, as I just made a quick look to find yours and there might be something there somewhere.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
