    hi,

I had replaced in fact battery with a brand new one, given a break, but no success. still does not recognise the HDD in order to boot the unit.

Yes, I too have the same problem. My machine had been in storage for about a year and a half and when I first started it, it behaved okay, brought up Windows XP as expected, but reported a low internal battery voltage when it was going through BIOS POST checks. Didn't think much of it until I switched it on the next day and Zip, Nada, didn't even get past POST checks. Checked BIOS settings via F2 at startup and it didn't even have a HDD recognised, IDE HDD set to OFF in BIOS setup. Checked the HDD in another machine and it works fine. Replaced the CMOS battery a CR2032 and still no change. Tried a different HDD in the GX270 and still nothing. Even with new battery in I reset the CMOS memory and still doesn't recognise the original HDD, so I am completely stuck! Anyone know of a cure for this?

This may or may not help, try taking out the cmos battery out (looks like a watch battery) and leave for a few minutes then replace, this will reset the bios.

Pressing the start button the fans run and the keyboard lights momentarily after 2/3 seconds the fans stop the computer does not start Dell Optiplex gx270 I have the same problem with Phillips MT2400

first, try to replace keyboard. if not work try reformat the system and if still not work, there is a problem in mainboard maybe short circuit then replace mainboard.

Want to Boot from dvd ROM

when the pc in post usually on dells bios there is a boot menu option it is usually f12
if you don't know what your doing in the bios it is not a good place to test your skills after pressing F12 just choose cd rom for boot
