Question about Epson Stylus Photo R2400 InkJet Printer

Epson R2400 printer won't print

Power light is off; ink and paper lights both flashing rapidly in sync; can't see any paper or other blockage; tried turning off and disconnecting power to both printer and computer and after few minutes reconnecting but still same problem. Any ideas?

The power light goes off and the ink and paper lights both blink rapidly. Is there a way to "empty" the waste pad?? If so how/what is the procedure to do this?

I am having the same problem exactly..

I am not getting the solution...how to reset my printer?

I have the same problem. However, I can print plain paper with not problems. When I try to print the Luster is when the problem happens for me. It seems like it has something to do with the feeder mechanism opening to accept thicker paper. I don't have a solution but I'm wondering if my exact problem is similar to anyone else.

Try to turn on your printer without the ink cartridges. When the printer starts and ask for the cartridges, put them back in.

(To remove the cartridges turn on the printer, watch the print head carriage move, when it is at the center quickly unplug the power cable, move the carriage by hand to a position where you can remove the cartridges, after removing the cartridges push the carriage to the right where it should be parked.)

Epson r230

If the Ink Out light flashes, the printer is getting low on ink; if it is on solid, the printer is completely out of ink and you need to replace the cartridge; if it is flashing rapidly, the printer detected a print head unit or ink cartridge installation error. If the Paper Out light is on solid, you need to install paper in the printer; if it is flashing, the printer detected a paper jam. When both the Ink Out and Paper Out lights are on solid, the printer thinks that there is a carriage error; if both lights are flashing, there is a fatal error and the printer will need to be sent in for service

The ink and paper jam lights are flashing alternately on my 2400 and the print head will not move when the printer is switched on, any idea?

You have to reset waste ink counter. Use SSC Utility or adjusment program for printer type. Try to find at indoreset.blogspot.com. Or contact me if you don't find out there.

It sounds like your printer has reached what is often called the "service required" stage...

To solve this you need to handle two things.

1. Get the printer protection counter (or waste-ink as it's sometimes called) reset.

2. Replace the waste ink pads OR redirect your waste ink flow to an external tank

It's important to note that Epson will encourage you to do a waste pad replacement through one of their service centers, but if you're out of warranty this will cost a significant amount of money (approx: $100 - 200)

To solve these as a DIY you can do the following:

1. Resetting the counter...
Get a resetter, either the SSC utility (google: epson SSC utility) or the IPR utility that Epson have now made available via their website here

The latter is only available to North American printer owners so the SSC is a safer bet.

2. Redirecting waste ink to an external container.
This is something I'd heartily recommend instead of trying to change the waste pads yourself... It's simple enough to do and a little googling using keywords "Epson R2400 waste ink tank" should get you all the info you need.

There are simple kits available that offer everything you need or you can easily go for a DIY with bits you have to hand.

Hope that helps...

Epson r 2400 top trashcan light and ink light flashing

For Jane106:
The ink-out and paper lights flashing alternately indicates the "service required" or basically ... "change my ruddy diaper, it's full of ink".

This is not as bad as it sounds and you have a few options:

1. Take it to a service center and have it serviced (ie: have the waste pads replaced)... It's expensive though so be warned.

2. Download the SSC utility (Google: SSC epson reset) and use this to reset the protection counter in the printer memory.
Note: READ the manual, it's not overly intuitive.

If you've gone with 2. you'll still need to do something about your waste ink and the simplest is really to modify your printer to redirect waste ink from the cleaning pump to an external tank.

Again Google is your friend so keywords like "Epson waste ink R2400" will find what you need. Some kits are better than others but then I'm biased :)

Hope that helps.

Printer is on but cannot print

if your power light is off and the paper and ink lights are flashing try this.
1. remove all the paper,
2. open the cover and check for paper jam
3. make sure the ink cartridge lid is securley in place by opening and re closing the ink cartridge lid
reclose the lid, disconnect the power supply and hold the power button for 30 seconds. reinstall the power plug and turn the printer back on.

hope this helps
