Question about Video Cameras
I have a viewcam VL-Z8 and would like to know how to download videos onto a mac. I have connected the camcorder to my mac using a firewire cable from the dv port on the camcorder, but when i switch on the camcorder nothing is detected by the mac to say its connected and so i can do nothing futher. Do I need a capture video card??? Please help me to solve this problem.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You've probably fixed this by now, but since nothing is posted:
I have an older Sharp digital camcorder, one of the first. It's the VL-NZ100 and Sharp does not support transferring the video to a PC with this camcorder because they did not include the cable to do it. That said, I WAS told by Sharp that I could figure it out myself if I got a fireware (IEEE) cable.
I got a very inexpensive IEEE-1394 firewire cable, set my camcorder to Tape/VCR, connected the cable to my PC and my camcorder, and Windows Vista recognized it. It asked if I wanted to transfer the video and it just walked me through the whole thing! This is built in to Vista, so if you have the operating system, you are set.
If you don't, I don't know if you can download Windows Photo Gallery from Microsoft. I know that you can download Windows Live Photo Gallery but I don't know if that has the same functionality. You didn't mention what operating system you have.
And FYI, I didn't need drivers.
