    Hi Laptopexpert and Char1ieJ,

First, thanks for you guys trying to help.

I just went thur my recovery disk and they gave me the wrong disk, it was window 98, not window xp. So what other way I can do now?

If not, is there other salutation that I can copy some files to other computer?

I wish it's still under warranty, but it's not.

The error code indicates that your hard drive is failing. If the laptop is still under warranty, contact Dell for support. If not, I would suggest trying to get it booted one more time and copying everything you want to keep off of it. Then, look for a new 2.5" hard drive on or (some place like that). Either way, the hard disk is probably on its last leg. I hope this helps!

I agree with laptopexpert... but you may be able to use the Win98 CD just the same. Do you remember if your hard drive is formatted with NTFS format or normal FAT/FAT32? If the latter, then the Win98 CD will work for using chkdsk. If NTFS, you'll need a Win2K or WinXP CD.

Either way, I still think the hard drive is going bad. Is there any info you must have from the hard drive? If not, then you're in the free & clear to purchase a new, larger (but cheaper) hard drive. Follow-up after you try the chkdsk -- and let us know the results.

I would suggest maybe a Dell or Acer. Everyone has their favorite place to purchase from -- one of mine is They have some good deals on laptops right now. Actually, if you check TGI_BlackFriday, you might see a forthcoming ad (for 11/28 or 11/29) that will make the decision easier -- and not the wallet lighter. I wish you the best!

You will have to try and boot from the Operating System CD and Run a Check Disk
from the repair utility chkdsk /r/f/p or try a factory restore on boot Press and hold: Control key + F11

the only reason the code indicates the drive is failing is because the drive can't boot....

The Drive Is Most Likely Not Failing......

Dell uses a 3rd partition for Restore When Sys Files Get Messed Up The Laptop Wont Boot because It has Lost its way to the correct Partition to boot from.... Going in and repairing the boot manager will NOT Work , You Need to reformat the drive...

You can double up the drive to another PC to transfer Data if needed

But THE OS currently on there needs to be Reloaded From Scratch
