Question about Philips PSS110/17 MP3 Player

1 Answer

My PSS110 can not find the tracks that have been loaded on to it.

I have used two other PSS110 for a few years and bought a third for a friend. I loaded two songs on it through my PC (XP, media player 10). If I look through Explorer I see the songs on the system, but when I go to play them through the PSS110 it shows no tracks on the system.

This device uses its own internal database to keep track of the files it can show. If you just copy files over the database won't be updated.

Get the free program "ShoqBox Buddy" and use the "rebuild database" function to tell the device about the new files you added.

Have you checked the reset button at the back - I have had to reset my unit more than once. Battery is probably OK. You can send unit back to Philips to have new battery installed - but I would bet your battery is OK.

Pss110/5 system problem

The PSS110 is not fully compatible with Vista.

You can download the Philips Device Manager for the PSS110 from:

http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?scy=GB&slg=ENG&cat=MP3_PLAYERS_CA&sct=SHOQBOX_SU&session=20080627080823_82.5.154.61&grp=PORTABLE_ENTERTAINMENT_GR&ctn=PSS110/05&mid=Link_Software&hlt=Link_Software

The software is not Vista compatible so you will have to run it on an XP machine.

Run the Device Manager and select the repair option. This will update the firmware and replace the system files.

Make sure the player is connected to the mains during this process.

Use the Philips Device Manager

Problem in loading song in device

Tracks must be transferred using the Musicmatch Jukebox software supplied with the player. You cannot drag & drop from Windows, even though the player shows up as a removable drive. Musicmatch transfers the tracks, and alkso updates the file list on the player. If the tracks aren't on the file list, the player will ignore them.

Also, you need to have Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10, as Musicmatch uses drivers from version 10.

If you have Windows Media Player 11 installed, you will need to uninstall it to roll back to version 10.

If Musicmatch still doesn't transfer correctly, click on options / tools, and make sure that the device is recognised as "GoGear" , and not "Removable drive"

PSS110 is only compatible with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10.(Even though Musicmatch is used to transfer files)

If you have Media Player 11, then uninstall to roll back to version 10.

Check that you are not loading protected (DRM) tracks. If so delete these tracks and load a non DRM test track.

If this doesn't help then try the following:

Check that Musicmatch is recognising the player as GoGear, and not removable drive n: (Where n: can be any drive letter)

If it is showing as removable drive within Musicmatch, then go to the options menu. Select devices. Click on the dropdown menu, click on GoGear, then apply.

Install and run Philips Device Manager fro the product CD. Use the repair option to format the device, and free up the space taken up by the un-recognizable tracks.

Musicmatch will then put the tracks in the right place and update the playlist.

hello, i found the original cd that came with the mp3 player, uninstalled musicmatch and pss device manager, disconnected from the internet and reinstalled everything on the disc. i then reformatted the device and had to go into settings on the portable device option in musicmatch and selected pss 110 rather than flash. the device works now although i had to select the 'add' from portable device rather than sending to it from musicmatch jukebox.
hopen it works for you. you may have to keep selecting the pss option as it seemed to re-set itself as a flash device a few times. john
