Dust, Hair, Paper, Feathers, CRUD and other problems.
Laptops must NOT be used on your Lap, bed, carpet, or any other surface that cuts off the cooling air supply.
Remedy: Using canned-compressed-air, blow out all the crud.
If possible, use a toothpick to hold the fan from over-spinning.
If the air intake is covered by a "screen", poke holes, cut it out, or otherwise remove it. Check BIOS for fan-control options.

The Gateway 450 series is notorious for overheating. The P4 series does get a good bit hotter than the Centrino series but still that is a mute point over time. This high amount of heating also leads to GPU failures which is fairly common in this series, especially in the 450's with the M9 ATI onboard although still extremely common is failures with the M7 ATI GPU's. I do agree that you need to blow out the vents on the back of the laptop. I would not try pulling the keyboard and blowing it out from that direction unless you are comfortable taking one apart. What I would suggest is going online, Newegg is awesome price wise, and checking out a coolpad by Zalman , the ZM-1000 or ZM-2000 series are great. I dont mean to scare you but this will help with the heating and will hopefully prevent GPU failure on this system.

Noooo Ram Has Nothing to do with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You Need To Have The Laptop Disassembled....
It Needs To Be Cleaned out Of Dust and Debris!!

THis Means Pulling the case apart and cleaning the Fan(s), the Fan Blades, THe Heatsink Fins also Need To Be Cleaned, Use A Toothbrush to clean the Fins of the heatsink...
And A Good Idea, since you're already in there is to apply Silver Thermal Compound to your CPU and GPU....

Again... Adding Ram will do Nothing For Your Overheating Issue... Cleaning It will....

My sony lap top gets hot the fand ned to be spid up

You won't be able to do it unless it's some really expensive high end laptop. I'd suggest buying a laptop cooling pad or at least putting something under between laptop and table/your lap/bed/wahetever to make some space for an airflow.

Tip

Do not take the name literaly

Hi

The name Laptop computer suggests that the computer can be put on your lap while you are using it.That however depends. Having the computer on your lap can sometimes block or restrict the air-flow to the CPU and motherboard> This can result in the machine overheating and can cause serious and expensive damage. Invest in a COOLING PAD. This is a pad on which your laptop rests while you have it on your lap or while it is standing on any surface for that matter. The cooling pad has built in fan/s underneath and are easily powered by any usb ports on your laptop (plug and play) The idea of the cooling pad is to blow cool air through to the laptop's vent especially while you have the machine on your lap. There has been many reports of CPU's that have overheated and burnt our while on a persons lap for long periods of time. So yes the name Laptop can be debated. Lol...seriously, a cooling pad is so inexpensive, that it would be foolish not to have one.

Your laptop is getting too hot therefore you need to place in on a wooden surface like a table instead of your lap to prevent it from getting overheated.

My processor is getting hot. What will be the solution.

Turn it off ... it will not get hot.

Typically, normal temperature is over 100 degrees. There have been reports of fires starting as the result of a overheated PC. I am not making the claim, I have not had this experience.

Heat is the enemy of delicate computer parts. They call them Lap Tops but you should never use one on your lap. Always place your lap top on a hard surface to insure the vents are not blocked and the internal fan can try to do its job. If you are concerned about the heat, you can get a 'cool pad' to use under your lap top. A cool pad has a fan which blows onto your lap top to keep it cool. The cool pad gets its power from a USB in your laptop. This cool pad should not be used for long periods of time on battery power for obvious reasons.

I have a HP Laptop model pavilion dv8210us. The laptop shuts off itself when the hardware gets overheated. How can I get this issue solved?

Do you have the laptop on a hard surface or is it on your lap or a pillow? You must have lots of air circulation to keep the laptop cool.

I would suggest buying a laptop cooler, a device that has fans and plugs into the USB ports. They are in major computer stores and usually are under $30.

Why is my laptop overheating?

You can try a Targus Lap cooler to circulate the air a little better. The fan may be working but just not as efficiently as it used to. You probably have noticed that it works longer and better in cooler rooms as well. A lap cooler will help with the cooling issue.

Overheating for sony vaio vgn-bx546b

Hi,

Make sure that the laptop is on a hard surface. If it is on a bed or on your lap, it will get hot because the fans are being blocked up and the hot air can not escape. I hope I helped.

L20 laptop overheats - disk makes beep and clicking noises

When any electronic device gets hot/overheats you will notice performance issues. Is the fan turning on/running? There should be a fan (most on the bottom of laptop some on side) that turns on when the unit get above a certain temp. Make sure thats comin on when it starts to get pretty warm/hot, also make sure you have adequate ventallation (laptops naturally get very hot no matter what). Make sure the bottom legs raise the laptop off of your table (should not sit completely flat on the table and should sit up just a little to allow air to flow underneath) or lap so air can circulate from the vents. If no fan then I would suggest replacing the fan (about $20). and see if that solves your issue.
