Question about Lexmark T630 Laser Printer

Lexmark T630 Hangs with Parallel Busy

I have a couple of these printers with Fax machines on them. They will periodically hang with a "parallel busy" message on the display. It cannot send or receive faxes until I print something else from the computer to clear the message.

Try replacing the ethernet cards in these printers these have nvram chips that are known to fail. a failing chip can create stalling. t630 632 634 are the only lexmark lasers that will not boot all the way with out the ethernet card

try this go into the parrallel menu use the left arrow till in the display you see this hit select there are 2 setting pcl smart switches make sure both of these are set to on. then scroll to parrallel buffer select it and make sure this setting is on auto there are like 10 different settings for the parrallel buffer stting this to auto will prevent buffer over flow which may be the problem that your having.

SOURCE: Dell 2330dn - my printer won't print my work.

could mean that the parallel port is bad, the Operating System is corrupt, the printer is faulty.

Try installing you printer onto another computer, if you can install it on another computer and have it work then that means the printer is good.

Try another printer on the computer that is saying the parrallel port is busy, if another printer won't install on that computer then you know at that point its either the OS that is corrupt or the port is definitely bad.

My Brother MFC7340 Fax Machine will not send faxes it has a busy signal always and a busy signal when someone tries to fax me.

Hi,
You need to reset the memory, since previously you have dialed some number, which is not able to connect. So restart the printer. Unplug the printer for 10 minutes and plug back the power to the printer.

Hope this helps.

The usb slot in the back of the lexmark is broken,

Not Usually. Replacement requires disassembling the printer to get to the circuit board, a soldering station to remove the old, and solder in the new. The reassemble the printer. Factory alignment will no longer be correct, and may be too far out of range for the user alignment procedure to compensate.

If your printer has a parallel port (most don't anymore), then you might be able to use a USB to Parallel adapter instead. You might be better off replacing the printer though, or just keeping it around for dedicated fax / copier.

I want to know how the parallell port is configureg. baudrate. bitrate etc

The parallel port does not use bit or baud rate. These terms apply to not serial ports.

A complete description of the Parallel port operation is not possible in this forum, so I'll just highlight the differences.

First, serial transmits one bit at a time. Parallel means that all 8 bits in a byte are passed at one time. A parallel port can pass data at about 10K bytes (Standard) to greater than 1M characters per second depending on the configuration of the Port.

There are two types of parallel port connections. The Centronics or Standard Parallel Port (This is signal line activated and then is run by timing.)

For example, when the PC has data to send to the printer, it first checks that the parallel port is not busy, by testing the signal on the nBUSY pin.

If the printer is not busy, then the PC lowers the signal on the nSTROBE signal line. The printer sees the signal drop and waits about 500ns and then sets nBUSY to low and transfers the data to the printer. 500ns later, the printer will raise the ACK line and lower the nBusy line.

The high speed version of the port works off of the edges of the signals and does not use the timing delays.

For example, the PC will check the nBUSY line and if it is not busy, then it will lower the nSTROBE line. When the printer sees the nSTROBE line go low, it latches the data off of the parallel port and then raises ACK and lowers nBUSY.

So the difference between the High Speed IEEE1284 and the Standard or Centronics is the timing. Standard uses timing delays and IEEE1284 does not. Also, the IEE1284 protocol allows for communication back from the printer via the parallel data pins. You cannot do this with the Centronics port.

There are several forms of IEE1284 so yo8u have to know which forms are used by your PC. For example, I believe that HP PCs use EPP form and Lexmark uses another form of IEE1284.

Dell 2330dn - my printer won't print my work. It keep reading Parallel busy. What does this mean?

How is this printer connected to your computer? Is it connected by a parallel/centronics cable, or USB, or perhaps not connected physically at all, but via network (it's a network-capable printer)?

Also, you don't specify the operating system.

I would guess, that it was installed on the LPT (parallel) port, instead of a network port, and because in reality nothing is connected to the parallel port it is producing an error (explaining why it's called busy would be long and boring).

Anyway, please either check the setting of the port to which this printer is printing (find that in Printer Properties), or be more specific as to what your current situation is.

Km-2550 fax machine stays busy for long periods while it has document in memory and is communicating. The product is not a Lexmark, its a Kyocera KM-2550, but thats not a choice so...

1.....connect a regular fax to the line and see if you get the same response if you do then its a phone line issue... ... now lets troubleshoot...plug a phone in and pick up the reciever... listen for static on the line... if there is static... that can cause issues... call phone company... also if its voip... that can cause issues... if so tune your voip or get filters and this might reduce it... and possibly eliminate the issue.... if not... then i would call a kyocera tech and have him update the firmware for everything on the machine... printboards... scanners, fax... main system and if it keeps happening I would replace the fax board... still happening replace main board...

the logic board could cause this if the nvram is messed up. how ever i have found this to be caused by the engine board about 98% of the time. change the engiine board and your problem will go away
