Question about Acer Aspire 3000 Notebook
I understand how smart you are.....however you first listed your external monitor issue then your "core" problem second. I don't believe I answered anything but the first issue (it was a separate paragraph). I don't pretend to understand much more than the basice, but with about 20 years experience with field sales persons and the laptop issues created by lack of corporate control (laptops were not priority because IT was stationed in mfg plants and the squeaky wheel.......)I have seen and experienced some pretty amazing things from some very intelligent people. Their thought process started way above the actual cause or the symtons and method of manifestation as a result. Therefore I must ask you what you will probably consider an insulting question! I have the feeling that you have tried many more fixes than you listed......I don't think a slam is necessary just because someone does not "read between the lines" (aka read your mind/have same thought process steps).
You have two problems!@!!
Have you considered that?
You introduced several "non native" items to your system....something you were copying and a CD DVD (new/used/preformatted/ formatted where;) how are your safety/security programs setup......what do they check....when do they check....or do you use something like Zone Alarm where it is possible to unintentioally allow/give permission to potentially dangerous events?
Your power/no response has similar characteristics to a problem is a common acer probler...I am sure you found that in your research....your external monitor problem is the result of not drilling down for a few ideas on acer or it's sites.
Your "won't work now" sounds pretty simple to a simple person like me.....an acer protection is kicking you back off because.....what...only you would know. Do you remember the boot virus from several years ago that was particularly troublesome....same symptons wasn't it?
Let me give you a dummy drill....remove your hard drive ....then with a windows installation disk or your choice of bootables.......turn your laptop on and see if it stays on....hmmm!
If I could rate problem submission quality based on the sumbitters assessment of their own intelligence ... and.....given your electronics expertise I would have to rate yours as inapproprite.......espcially of I used the same criteria for rating as you apparently use......Touche'.
p.s. I have three acer laptops of varing ages and configurations......did finally figure out slingbox directly from feed so I could watch things like NASCAR and drink beer outside while preparing food that all rednecks love.....how are you doing with dart N on older equip......I also finally figured out how to use my macbook pro...it's almost as simple as ny Mac Mini (no matter what they say you can uograde things like memory yourself) ....it did take me a little longer to get "airport Extreme" and "Airport Express" to work the way I wanted with my Bose system, and Ipod boombox-wirelessly. .what did Forest Gump say......."stupid is as stupid does".
Give me a break, please!!! Even if youhad all the clearances I I would not share the basis for my technical/hands on experiences that are the basis for some of my solutions. So you are stuck with my simplistic response....oops....sorry ...my inappropriate response.

I will have to look at my Acer for verification, but I am pretty sure that even though you use the keyboard to switch to an external display that there is also a recognition/enable-disable setting that has to be set appropriately. Try control panel/settings then open display folder...you should find what I am referencing in one of the submenus on the main selections.....it may be in the settings/appearance - advanced tab. I apologize for the ambguity but I don't have my Acer with me.
As far as the DVD goes I expect someone else will know much more than myself, but if the issues are limited to those you described, my novice approach would be one of elimination for the most basic items; such as driver reinstall; hardware removal thru control panel then restart recognition and reinstall; device manager review for changes; and as a last resort even removing the cd/dvd drive from your boot sequence.
