Hot water dribbles thru shower head when turned to hot
The Moen 3175 when turned for hot water...water dribbles thru shower head....when turned for cold water..no problem.......both showers...both are moen shower valves...very little water in the house have the same problem
Re: hot water dribbles thru shower head when turned to...
Replacing the cartridge should solve the problem, the balancing spool is stuck, replacing it will solve the problem. The valve should look like this http://www.moen.ca/shared/pdf/3170pt.pdf . I have unstuck the spools in the past, soaking it in white vinegar will help to remove build up.

Make sure the hot water is turned back on. Pressure balancing valves won't work if both cold and hot water is not on. Pull shower head off and test to see how it flows out of the shower arm. If good, clear out shower head. Whenever water is turned off for a time, and then turned back on, restricting shower heads and aerators usually get clogged. In the future, always open up a tub spout before turning water back on. This releases the air and other debris most effectively before testing other fixtures in the house.
It sound like you have sediment blocking your valve, faucet airiator or shower head (depending on what you're using). FYI: if it turns out to be defective all Moen faucets and showers have a life time warantee.
I just installed one this weekend. Make sure that the cartridge has the embossed "HC" at the top (for Hot on left, Cold on right) when you slide it back in. Also, before putting the handle on turn the cartridge shaft so that the completely flat part is toward the top and the side with the small notch at the end is toward the bottom.
You must of turned off your water to the house or maybe it was turn off in the street recently because it sounds as if you have debris in you strainer remove the head and rise of removing any dirt rise out both front and back of shower head while head is off run shower to make sure you are getting full pressure out of the pipe that the head is connected to
Do you have good flow if you remove the shower head, y/n if not how old is house, galvinized plumbing?? or copper plumbing. Sounds like you have a clogged valve and if so this link will be good.
Yes it is fixable and easy.To save you time because I belive you will be needing a new part from Moen I am sending you this easy link to quickly resolve your issue. Just be sure to tell Moen you are original owner of faucet and all parts are lifetime free including shipping. Go Moen!!!
1st Check the temperature restricting coller behind the cover under the handle. It is used to restrict the flow of hot water to stop you from being scaulded.
2nd Those set screws will control the flow. Check to ensure both sides are open the same amount of turns. If the water pressure is good turn in the cold side.
