My iphone has suddenly decided to stop charging and syncing. Unfortunatly this was not helped by me dropping it down a flight of stairs! The phone is second hand so no warranty and its unblocked. I have tried to reboot it restart it etc but no joy. When plugged into the charger and usb port it just doesnt do a thing, no icons no nothing! I have left it on charge for hours...still nothing. i have run the battery down so its dead, just need some ideas on what to do please!!

If you can turn on your phon at all I would do one of two things......but first if you have ever synced your phone check to see what the date of your last back up is. If that is current enough for your requirements then you can either do a reinstall of everything (including the phone's software), use reset all selection that is in the menus under the settings icon, but first just do the simple reset(don't remember name)but it is described as a partial reset removing only some settings/data.

I am not sure if you have to be a subscriber on the Apple site but they also have live "chat support" with Iphone techs . You can find that option on the Apple site in the Iphone support sub-menus and possibly the "mobile me" menu also. The last time I used the tech chat there was no charge and I don't remember them asking much about my phone.

You should try to sync the same phone with another computer. This will rule out the possibilities of whether it is the issue with the phone

How to Hard Reset an iPhone

Owners and users of the Apple iPhone generally report loving the phone, but they also report frequent lock-ups where the screen suddenly freezes or goes black altogether. Some report success solving the problem with a soft reset or the holding down of the sleep/wake and home buttons for the 10 second reset requirement. If this does not work, a hard reset is required to bring the iPhone back to life.

Instructions

Update iTunes to version 7.4 or higher from the Apple website if you haven't already.
Connect the iPhone to your PC. You are automatically taken to the sync management page, and iTunes automatically begins syncing, or copying/backing-up the calendars, Internet bookmarks, contacts and e-mail accounts stored on the iPhone. Sync everything on the phone or pick and choose from the menu you're given. Sync everything on the iPhone you don't want to lose, because a hard reset restores the iPhone to its original state and all data added since it was first taken out of the box is lost.
Go to the "Summary" tab at the top of the screen and select "Restore" from the drop-down menu.
Wait as the iPhone hard resets. The iPhone comes back up in it's original factory state and a prompt appears asking if you want to restore data settings.
Select "Yes" to restore the synced data to the iPhone.

How to sync palm desktop to iphone without using outlook

Bring up Palm Desktop. Make sure your Palm phone is synced up. Show the Address page, select all contacts (Ctrl-A), and export them with File, Export vCard. This puts all contact information into a single file as a sequence of vCards.

Bring up Windows Address Book. You can find this in Start, All Program, Accessories, Address Book.

Using Windows Explorer, drag the vCard file you created in step 1 to the Windows Address Book window. I had never used Windows Address Book, so it was empty. If yours isn't empty, you'll have to decide whether you want to merge your contacts.

When you drop the file, you'll get a window asking you to confirm the first contact. Press OK. Another window will come up for the second contact. Press OK until all windows are gone. It's easiest to hold down the Enter key.

Bring up iTunes with your iPhone plugged in. Go to your iPhone page, to the Info tab, and configure it to sync from Windows Address Book. Click Apply in the lower-right corner of the window.

Sync your iPhone. Verify that your contacts transferred over.

Tell iTunes to stop syncing with Windows Address Book, since you probably only wanted a one-way sync. Your contacts will be backed up anyway by iTunes, so the Address Book sync feature doesn't buy you much.

Sync iphone to outlook contacts

Speaking of syncing iPhone with Outlook, you can take advantage of iTunes to sync contacts. sync-iphone-outlook-contacts-oxaxc0rwhkhzilrwacqreyis-3-0.jpg
 1. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable, and launch iTunes.
 2. Click iPhone icon, and choose Info the Summary Panel in left sidebar.
 3. Check Sync Contacts with, and choose in the drop-down menu.
 4. Click Apply at the right bottom to start syncing iPhone contacts with Outlook.
When the sync is finished, the contacts will show up in the Outlook contacts. Besides syncing contacts, you can also sync iPhone calendars and mails to outlook as well. But if you have noticed, the sync of iTunes is an annoying issue among iPhone users as during the sync of iTunes, the application may erase the available files in their iPhone.
