Question about Dell OptiPlex GX150 SF PC Desktop

Blue Screen error

I have formatted the disk on my Dell Optiplex GX150 computer. And reinstalled windows. Once reinstalled the computer starts up but before getting to the desktop, the blue screen appears with the error message VGA64K. And sometimes with an eplanation that one of the drivers of devices is in an infinite loop. What can I do to correct this problem?

Try to boot the PC without the XP Home CD in the CD drive, and keep pressing the F8 key until it comes up with a boot menu that includes a Safe Mode option.

If you had the XP Pro CD I'd suggest doing a recovery, but XP Home doesn't have that option I don't think.

You may have to try a few times until the boot menu appears. Don't hold the F8 key down - keep pressing it!

When you get into Safe Mode, right click on My Computer and choose Properties. Then go to Hardware tab (i think - not in winXP right now) and choose device manager. Just remove the Video Card from the list altogether, and then restart. Should force it to use generic video card drivers.

then check your video card model and look for the updated driver

Dell optiplex 780 i wanted to change from windows 7 to xp blue screen appears how to fix

You are going to need to start your computer in safe mode and find the XP drivers that will work for your motherboard manually from the web (Assuming that there are any created for XP for that board). That blue screen you keep getting is because you don't have the correct driver loaded for something on the motherboard that it needs to boot correctly and your XP install couldn't find it on the web to install automatically.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking".

Now start looking for your drivers here:

Dell optiplex gx150 cd drive won't boot

Hmmm--when you went into the BIOS setup, your first boot device should be CD. The next your hard drive. The other boot devices should be set to disabled. Now if you have a third boot device as a network device, then your computer is not seeing the CD or the Hard drive--you have a problem. If all the drives are hooked up properly (sounds like you have that covered) then your motherboard is probably the problem.
I would try to disconnect all your stuff except the CD. Try it on the first IDE channel (set it either as cable select or master). If that fails, try it on the other channel. Do you have a second CD to swap out?
Still no boot? Bad motherboard.

My Optiplex GX150 won't boot

I need more information.
But it sounds like your OS has critical errors, you may need to reformat the drive.
Can you get to the bios menu? (first screen after power switch press an designated F key - look fast for the f key to press)

Once in bios
Possible solution #1
Here is what you do in bios, if you can get to it.
Go to boot order, should be under IDE devices, switch from hard drive to cd, and insert your OS cd and restart.
After xp cd loads, choose format drive, quick format recommended for fast (might want to do it just in case this doesn't work), but full format takes a very long time and is more thorough.

Possible solution #2 (try this first!)
Look on your OS cd for damage on the cd! If it is damaged, you may need to replace it

I must go now, personal message me for more help if desired

Boot problem with Dell Optiplex GX150

To reinstall Xp from the CD you need to press F2 and go into the BIOS then select the boot order configuration and make the CD the first boot device and the hard disk the second boot device.
After installing XP, if you wish you can go back into the BIOS and change the boot order to boot from the hard disk first.
