I just bought the g1 phone on dec. 3 and I haven't been able to use it since then. its giving me the same exact message that its either google having a problem or my sim card isn't provisioned. so i purchase a brand new sim card, but i still kept getting the same problem, then i thought it was the phone that was defective so i went to a t mobile store to exchange it and i am still getting the same problem. I have called customer service so many times and no one seems to know what the problem is. I am very frustrated and can not enjoy my new phone someone please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I've been unable to get my new G1 past the Google sign-up. The process fails with the message, "There is a problem communicating
with Google the servers. This could be a temporary problem or your
SIM card may not be provisioned for data services." T-Mobile tech
support had me reset the phone but no-go. Latest is phone may take
24 to 48 hours to unlock. Must be left on, in the meantime.

I've been trying to do this on a phone I got yesterday. I changed the all the US APNs first to wap.voicestream.com but that didn't work so then I changed them all to internet2.voicestream.com and that hasn't worked either. I tried it with my prepaid card that first was on the pay as you go tariff and then i changed to to sidekick which has data and that hasn't worked either. I'mnot sure if the data part has not enabled yet as it was just about an hour ago.

  • DeeLucas Dec 10, 2008

I have the same problem. I have tried the following as suggested on this and other sites.

Changing all US APNs to first wap.voicestream.com and then changing them all to internet2.voicestream.com and the first didn't work. In fact neither worked.

I also got a prepaid sim card that was on the Pay as you Go plan but that wouldn't able me to connect so I tried changing the plan to sidekick but that hasn't worked either. I'm not sure if the change just hasn't gone through yet as it was only about an hour ago and the sim has been in the G1 since then and obviously not connecting to Tmobile's network

Hi, I had that problem. I first verified that my TMobile internet was activated on my account and on my SIM card by putting the card in another phone and connecting to the 'net on it. Then I found the APN setting on the G1 and I changed the APN at the heading "T-Mobile US" from the new 3G APN "epc.tmobile.com" to the older APN "internet2.voicestream.com". The APNs can be accessed on your still-locked phone by pushing the "Menu" button at the sign-in screen. Scroll down to "T-Mobile US", select it and change "epc.tmobile.com" to "internet2.voicestream.com", exit by pushing the left-arrow button a few times, then re-enter your GMail info. If the "Edge" icon has appeared in the menu bar area, then you're golden!

That phone might need to point to Google servers in the US. If your Sim Card isn't provisioned for data services, that could be a problem as well.'

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

G1 mobile asking google username and passwords

G1 phones are set up to be used with a G1 data feature available from T-Mobile. This isn't optional and If you choose not to subscribe to this data feature, you will not be able to use the phone regardless of if you have a google email account or not. The phone is basically a paper weight without it.

My G1 phone wont factory reset itself and i dont know what to do, im not sure if i can still return my phone and get a new one because i had it since March 13,2009

Have you tried a reset using the hardware buttons? To perform this, you need to turn off the phone first. While it is off, press and hold the home key and the power key at the same time. Keep holding the buttons until you see a screen with a triangle and an exclamation point in the middle. Once you see the triangle, let go of the buttons and open the keyboard. Press ALT+W at the same time, and the phone should reset.

HTC G1 dead, can't power on, factory reset/soft reset not working

Well try to get your hands on either a second G1 phone or a multimeter to rule out a battery issue. If you take a charged battery from another G1 and it still doesn't turn on you will have a logic board issue. With a multimeter you can measure the battery directly, if the phones doesn't turn on if the voltage is over 3.7V, you'll have a logic board issue as well. Within one year T-Mobile should give you a replacement. If you can't get a replacement under warranty there is both an T-Mobile G1 Repair Guide and a third party T-Mobile G1 Repair Service, If you try a self-repair make sure you feel comfortable with opening devices that are not meant to be user serviceable.

Was locked out of G1 phone becuz pattern was drawn to many times, entered my userid and password but the phone still won't unlock. saying invalid username or password. I can however enter gmail on the home...

Right now the G1 is having issues logging into the phone after you get locked out using a screen pattern. Just try to remember to write down the username and password you used the first time that way you won't lose the information on your phone by having to reset it. Also make sure you are typing it carefully and make sure to enter your whole gmail address too (Ex. example@gmail.com). Also if you have had to change your password from a computer after you logged into your G1, it does not take the password change. A way to avoid that is to login to the G1 again. Sync your contacts to gmail first (Settings > Data Synchronization > Menu > Sync Now). Then go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Google Apps > Clear Data. To sign in again go to Settings > Data Synchronization and it will give you the option to create an account or sign in.

Connecting to google server

Hello,

You need to be set up for the G1 data plan through T-Mobile. This is the 24.99 plan for g1 data + 400 texts, or 34.99 for g1 data and unlimited texts. If you are setup through online billing, you can do this through the website by clicking "Account>Add/Change services". If you do not have web billing, you can contact billing by phone.

Note - it can take up to 24 hours to become active, but on mine, it only took 10 minutes.
