Question about Samsung HCN4226W 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Verticle line in display

I replaced the convergence amplifier board and when set powered up there was a mostly straight vertical line starting at top middle of screen extending to about midscreen. Colors converged correctly after some dickering but the line remains. Kind of looks like this: | | | | \ \ | | The line is there no matter the source and changes color with screen. Did I scratch a coating somewhere? This being generated by a chip? Thanks in advance

The vertical green convergence adjustment is broken

Either your convergence ic's are bad or the convergence digital module ( if your model has one ) . I would have it looked at by a service company.

most likely a fault in the vertical deflection circuit or sometimes but rare, in the video circuit. Your problem could be a vertical registration problem(convergence), a bad vertical drive or verical output falure, or a fault at the sweep power suply that feeds the voltage to the verticle circuit. In my opinion, this repair, if it is what I think it is, should run anywhere from 200 bucks, all the way up to 450 bucks.depending on what has to be done. These sets have no user replaceable parts inside them, so trying to fix them yourself these days can not only be dangerous, but if you do not have the right training to work on these solid state sets, can also be alot of guesswork.

Red vertical lines

red verticle lines are most likely a bad tube or convergence problem. You will not be able to fix this your self . I suspect a bad convergence ic cost for parts are around 45.00 servicer charge about 250 to fix. At least know when you call a servicer you will have
a good understanding of problem.good luck.

HCM4215W Green convergence problem

Hi Greg,
Sounds like you have a bad convergence chip in the convergence board. Unfortunatly, about 80% of the rear projection sets I work on have this similar problem. I suggest that you change both chips ( there are 2 of the same ) and remember to use heat sink compound as this is why you not have the problem ( excessive heat destoys electronic components). Good Luck

It is adjustable only in the technician menu. You will most likely need to replace the convergence IC's in the TV. This is a very common issue. The locations are IK04 & IK05 and are generic part numbers STK392-110's.

You need to most likely replace the convergence output IC's probably STK392-110's and check associated resistors around it. HD is not mandated for 2009, only digital braodcast it is at that point all analog television broadcast must stop.
