How can I place a password on my wireless router ?!?!

Are you trying to reset the router password or wireless network password?
Wireless network password is different than router access password.

To change the router access password, you can log in to router page and go to administration tab. There you will find the place to change the router password.

The default user name for this model router is admin and the default password is password. The default SSID is NETGEAR. You can verify your router settings by going to Click the wireless settings link and verify that the router settings are the same as those in the wireless computer. NOTE: The settings are case-sensitive - NetGear will not work in place of NETGEAR.

You can try the steps below and see if it will fix your problem.

1. Log in to your router interface by opening a browser. On the address bar type in http://192.168.1.1. ( this is usually the default address of linksys router)
2. Once you press enter, it will prompt you for a username and password.
Dont type anything on username and enter on the password box, the word admin.
3. Once your inside the router page, Click on wireless tab.
under wireless tab, change the wireless channel to 1, 6, or 11. If the ssid is still linksys, change it to something different. After doing these steps, press save settings. TO save the changes you made.

if you want to go wired on your router, you dont need a password. If you want to connect wireless and forgot the wireless password, then
1. Log on to the web interface of the router and change the password in the wireless settings. 2. If you have more time in your hands , reset your router and bring it back to factory defaults and set it up all over again

- Updating the firmware of your router will resolve the issue.

You will need to log into the Router to recieve either the WEP/WPA/WPA-PSK keys from the routers HTTP:// interface Mind tho MACS dont work very well with WEP they do alot better with WPA format

the default router password is admin, no username. if that didnot work, possible that the router password is change during initial set up. try your own personal password

wireless password is different from the router password. if you enable the router wireless security and you dont know what it is, you can access the router setup page and go to the wireless security tab to get your wireless password

Have you tried getting into the router setting via the ip ( 192.168.1.1 ) It should ask you for a name and password. Linksys usually uses ( admin, admin ) as name and passsword. sometimes its blank for name and admin for password. Look on the bottom of the router it usually tells you there. Also, you could call there tech support, they helped me alot one time in my early days, they spent like 20 minutes helping me.

Im not familiar with mac so i dont know if this helped at all.

What kind of router. make sure your wireless is turned on in the routers setting. Need More Info PLZ. Thanks What kind of router?? Dsl. Cable. ect. Hookup ? Is it B,G,ect.? That will help out alot if you find out the wireless was just off. OK Thanks again
