Here is how to do it on the Samsung M220, maybe it will work for your Samsung phone too:

Menu > Settings> More > Security and enter your lock code (last 4 digits of your phone number)
Select Erase/Reset
Select an option - in this case choose Erase Contacts

On the set-up ment there is a MASTER RESET and a MASTER CLEAR. Master clear will delete all contacts.

awesome. thanks...it worked for my Samsung A640 (pretty old version). I had to change the seqeuence a little. It's like this:

Menu > Security and enter your lock code (last 4 digits of your phone number!)
Select Erase :)
