There are a number of problems that can cause a 6000 error.
The simplest is a paper jam or it could be associated with your LAN connection if you're runing Ad-Ware or a registry porblem.
Try disconnecting your LAN cable (if you're using one) and try staring your printer and see what happens. You may need to reset the memory error codes.
To reset the printer and release memory error codes. 1. Press and hold the Resume for 1 - 2 minutes. 2. Open the cover. 3. Remove the cartridge and then replace them. 4. Close The Cover 5. Turn Off 6. Then Turn On again
Error 6000 is a line feed error, it means the platen roller isn't advancing properly. It usually means something has fallen in from the back where the paper goes and is stopping the rollers from turning. Check the printer for any paper jam or try to reset the printer to release memory code errors.
1. Press and hold the Resume button for 1 - 2 minutes. 2. Open the cover. 3. Remove the cartridge and then reinstall it. 4. Close the cover. 5. Turn Off the printer. 6. Turn On the printer.
error code 6000
Condition:an error occurred in the lf encoder signal
problem and solutions:
-clean the LF/EJ **** film.
-remove foriegn material.
-if other solution fail, replace the following
*lf/ej **** film
*lf/ej timing sensor unit
*paper feed roller unit
*paper feed motor
Error 6000 gets displayed when there is a paper jam or other general malfunction. When the message "6000 Printer error has occurred. Turn off the printer
then back on again. If the problem persists, see the manual." Is
displayed, something may block the paper feed tray from opening.
If the printer is surrounded with documents or when you copy
large documents such as books, make sure that you secure the clear space
in front of the tray before printing / copying. When the error message
above is displayed and if you find something is in front of the tray,
remove it. Then, turn OFF the printer and back ON again and the printer
will be ready for printing.
If you still have the trouble, contact the repair service. Check the printer for any paper jam or try to reset the printer to release memory code errors.

2. Open the cover.
3. Remove the cartridge and then reinstall it.

Wish I could be more confident of this but I couldn?t find much on this series of printer. You didn?t indicate if there were any LED codes being flashed but this is the only reference I could find involving ?6000? and this model printer.
Issue: Power light (or Alarm / Power lights) alternate(s) between orange and green 3 times (6000)
Solution: Reset the printer
Follow these steps to reset the printer:
1. Turn the printer off with the Power button (if available).
2. Disconnect the data cable from the printer (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared) .
3. Unplug the printer's power cord for a few seconds, and then plug it back in. If troubleshooting a communication issue, reconnect the data cable (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or Infrared).
4. Turn the printer back on.
I don?t have a service manual for this printer nor was I able to find one anywhere. From poking around the Canon site it appears that there are other error codes than what is published in their manual or web site so it might be worth a call to the help desk.
