Question about SanDisk Sansa e250 MP3 Player

Save settings + refresh + update problem

1.My Sansa is starting very long (about 30 sec) and the first screen, which I see after the start is the 'Language' first, I need to select the language and then I can go to Menu. 2.When I copy some music-files to the Sansa, the playlist doesn't refresh. When I delete some files from it, I still see the files in the playlist, but I can't play the songs (they aren't physically in the sansa but they're still in the playlist). 3.I can't update the Sansa. I have version 01.00.12A and when I click Search for updates now in SansaUpdater it doesn't find any updates. (I tried to reset it, but nothing happened. My friend has the same type of Sansa and she doesn't have such problems and the update goes well. Can I just copy the SYSTEM files from her Sansa to my Sansa?) Thanks for the help.

Im not sure about all the other problems you have but i do know my start up screen is REALLY long to so i think it's just the Sansa...i dont think thats anything to worry about and i did see something about having to go through select a language so i would search some of the problems ppl had on this site

Can't use

RESET: Go into the settings and scroll down to reset all, push center button, scroll to yes, push center this will restore factory settings.....
Reset All
If your device freezes up press the Menu button and hold for 15 seconds.
This is like a power down of the device. Once you perform the reset, the adjustments you made during last operation
will be gone.
This is what it states in the manual for the 260 sansa Page 29
Recovery Mode also resets system settings when unplugged...

Recovery Mode: download the update software and install then lock your sansa hold in the rec key on the left at the same time push the menu/power button this will take you to recovery mode then connect to the computer Start the update software if it doesn't start automatic goto /start /all programs /Sandisk/sansa updater/ sansa updater and start it up manually... follow instructions on the updater and the sansa. here is a link to a kid showing you how to goto recovery mode.

My sansa e260 goes black after showing sandisk start up screen and does the same when plugged into a pc. it starts to refresh database and then the screen goes black.

When you say the screen goes black even after disconnecting the device from computer it could be an issue with the firmware.
It might need to have updated firmware. To get the updated firmware please go

*** Make sure when you update the firmware keep the device in MSC mode.

I turn it on and the screen is white.

when that happen to me i held the power button and the middle button at the same time for like 15 sec then it turned off  try that  then turn it back on

When i start up my SanDisk Sansa E260 it starts then resets

I had the same problem when I connected to the computer. So I used my friends Labtop definite 2.0 usb. Did you try to update your sansa click on link and download install run connect sansa when asked.

Freezes after 8 secs (No sound or anything)

I registered my Sansa View in sandisk site, and the support sent to me these two solutions. I have a similar problem like you and I'm still haveing problems but meaby these steps working in your sansa view.

Nr 1:
Let us update your player's firmware:

Step 1 – Connect the player in Recovery Mode.

1. Turn off the player.
2. Slide down the Hold switch along the left side of the player down so the orange is showing.
3. Press and hold the HOME button and connect the device to the computer.
4. A message will appear on the device display screen confirming the connection and a 16MB partition will be viewable in My Computer (XP) or Computer (Vista).
5. Release the HOME button.

Download and update the firmware.

1. Download the firmware file:

Click Here for the Sansa View Firmware update file

2. Extract the zip file.
3. Copy the extracted firmware files (*.dat, *.rom, *.mi4, and *.fnt) to the 16MB-FORMAT drive.
4. Disconnect the player. This will now start the firmware update.
5. Slide the Hold switch to the unlock position.
6. Turn on the player.
Nr 2:
It appears that this is caused by file corruption in your player's memory. Usually, formatting your mp3 player resolves this FM issue in your player.

Formatting your Sansa View Mp3 player in Disk Management:


1. Make sure the Sansa View is turned on.
2. Engage the hold switch, located on the left-hand side of the player.
3. Press and hold the LEFT BUTTON ( << )
4. Connect to the computer while pressing and holding the LEFT BUTTON ( << ). Do not let go of the left button until the player is detected as Removable Disk.
5. The Sansa View should now be connected in MSC mode and should appear as a "Removable Disk" or "Sansa View".
6. From the desktop, right click My Computer, then select Manage. If you don't see My Computer on the desktop, click on Start and right click My Computer from there, then select manage.
7. On the Computer Management window, click Disk Management from the left pane.
8. On the right side, locate your sansa device on the list (it might be recognized as removable disc), right click on the sansa device, then select Format.
9. On the Format Window, select FAT32 under File System and make sure that the Quick Format option is not checked.
(You might get a warning window about your files being deleted when you format the device, if that is not an issue for you, click ok.)
10. Click OK to start formatting the device. This should start the format process.
11. Once the formatting is done, unplug the device from the computer. Let the device refresh.
12. We can verify that formatting is successful if it shows no files on the player.

Refresh database error

Used the Firmware Updater to get the latest firmware and this updated my Sansa E260 player which was in Recovery mode. The player then completed the refresh database process. No data was lost. The player is now functiining correctly.]

I had the "Refresh Database" problem with my C250, it just sat there after turning it on! However, the GOOD NEWS is, I corrected it! First I connected it to my PC, then FORMATTED the unit. This gave me an empty player that at least would turn on. Then I downloaded the Sansa "Updater" from the SanDisk website. After setting up the updater software, I connected the C250. It automatically checked for any new firmware, and loaded it into the player. After that I restarted the C250 and it again came up OK without any music loaded. The last thing I did was to load only 1.8 GB worth of music files. My take on the problem is that if you overload the memory, or interupt a file while loading, then the "datbase" function never gets done. I've had mine running for about a week now without problems! New songs= black screen

try to remove the battery, wait 30 seconds and replace it
this should reset your sansa,

a real hard reset isn't possible,
you can format it though
warning, this removes everything

To format your Sansa E200 series MP3 player:

1. Open "My Computer."
2. With the player plugged into the USB port, right-click on the player (if in MTP mode) or the drive letter for your player (if in MSC mode) and select "Format" from the right-click menu.
3. Press "Start."
4. You will receive a warning that the format process will erase all data on your device.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have backed up all of your data from the device before continuing with the format. Procedure will erase everything off the player. Agree to the warning.
5. The format will complete. Close the format window and your player should be ready to use.

After the format, please install the latest firmware update for your player. Please visit the following link to download and upload the Firmware on your Sansa E200:

PLEASE NOTE: All files will be deleted. Backup your files. Your MP3 player must be in MSC mode before installing the Firmware update.

To set your player in MSC mode, please do the following:

1. When the player is turned on, press the “Menu” button.
2. Navigate to the “Settings” menu.
3. Navigate to “USB”.
4. Under the “USB” menu, go to “MSC”.
After changing the player to MSC mode, reconnect it to your computer. The screen on the MP3 player should read “USB Connected” and "MSC”
You can now complete the Firmware update download from on your device.
Installation Instructions:

1. Unplug any other USB flash drives that's connected to any of your USB ports.
2. Download the firmware to your PC
3. Plug in your e200
4. Double-click on the downloaded firmware (e200fw01.00.12.exe) and follow instructions
5. Unplug your e200
6. Device will do it's own update process and will restart.
The device should be ready to be used again.

Frozen screen says: refresh database

tyr taking the battery out or try holding the power button and the play button at the sametime for 20 secs.
