This seems to me more on OS or hard drive issue then Bios.
delpart however wont affect the bios
If you need to update your bios. Once you installed your OS you can download the latest bios from the IBM support site below:

That's the idea of HDD passwords. You can't access the data on it at all. Either by boot cd or physically removing the hard drive and connecting it to another pc, you still won't be able to access the drive. Two options, replace the hard drive and reload a clean o/s. Or, there is a service available that might remove the password and retain the data. There are also services that will remove the password and wipe the data, as a security measure. But at the cost of either of these services, makes better sense to replace the drive and reload the o/s. You can goole HDD Unlock and find the software easily. You would need to connect the drive to another working pc. Download and run the software on that password protected drive. It will tell you if it is unlockable. To bad it's not a Dell, I may be able to provide you with a p/w to unlock it.

HP recovery partition wiped, and unrecoverable, ..............need an image reload it, once reloaded not sure if it is recognized by bios.

If you didn't make a set of recovery dvd's or cd's when you first bought your machine, then you can purchase a set by going to the HP site with your serial number, model, etc.

ok go into your bios by selecting one of the following:
F1 or F2 or Delete the computer will go into bios.
in bios look to upper left cornner you will see load defaults you will click on load default . then you will need to look along the top to where it says boot options. in boot options you will need to select the cd rom as your first boot option. if you look along the rite hand side it will tell u how to move and select your option. now you will need to put the harddrive as the second boot option. now you will need to look along to where it says exit. now you want to save and exit the bios . now try reboot your system. and selct F8 for advance options. in advance options you want to boot the l{ast known good configuration}.
if that fails you are setup to boot from cd-rom first so your bootable disk should work.

If you have an invalid disk in the unit, is the floppy disk left in the disk drive.

However, to completely erase windows, fdisk and format does not work.

Download delpart.exe and use this utility. Be careful though. When delparting a laptop, make sure not to delete the small partitions, but only the ones that are NTFS.

However, if the laptop has a SATA hard drive, this method will not work unless you create a bootup script with delpart.exe to run automatically. Then it will work.

If you have any issue, blog it on the internet about the exact procedure to create an iso bootable disk to load delpart.exe.

Leopard OS

Is the hard drive SATA or IDE. On IDE, I know you can use delpart. Locate a SATA tool to wipe the partition of SATA drives. Install LEOPARD as usual then after rebooting.

get a win 98 boot disk floppy. set bios to read floppy or usb floppy first save and exit. insert disk and boot comp. select boot without cd rom support. At command prompt type " FDISK " then hit enter dont type quotes. delete the particians then create new partician set 1 particians as active then remove disk then insert OS disk and go forth. I after you install your new OS and you get two boot options at the command promt after loading type " delpart " and delete the particians and save (use the tab and alt keys to bring up menus save and exit before you leave delpart) reboot and run fdisk to creat a partician and set it as active. then load your OS

New Laptop

The laptop has an eRcovery partition the will restore it to original condition.

Acer eRecovery

At the Acer splash screen, you can press Alt and F10 (at the same time you would press F2 to enter the BIOS) to bring up a DOS style version of eRecovery.
· The unit is able to reload Windows from this mode faster then from CD.
· The password by default is 000000 (6 zeros) and it is displayed when you are asked for the password.
· Users are able to change the password in this mode for eRecovery only.
· The system can recover from the hidden image on the hard drive (PQService partition) or from CD/DVD media.
· It is possible to reload from the factory style CDs/DVD or the snapshots that the Windows version of eRecovery creates.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
