Re: dark picture (HELP)

Open up the back of the set but be very carefull. Notice a large black block with a large red wire that runs up to the picture tube. on one side of that large block where the thick red wire is comming out of are two controls, one should be marked focus or F and one should be marked screen or S. With the set operating normally and not touching anything else, slowly turn the control marked screen or S clockwish till the picture gets bright enough. If you go too bright the set will shut down or you see small thin white lines so back down on the control. then touch up the focus and your good to go. good Luck.

Re: dark picture (HELP)

You could have a bad solder connection at the screen . check at the flyback and follow the part that indicates screen. It should be 230vdc or better.

Dark Picture

Hi there!
The knobs you refer to, are those perhaps the knobs on the board or knobs on the flyback transformer? None of these knobs should be turned. They are preset to the factory standard and if a fault occurs the fault should be addressed, not adjustments to pots. I would suggest checking all the caps in the power supply, Line stage and video section. It may also be the video processor(in the area of the tuner section). Check for caps which are rounded at the top. This is common for dark picture. Please note: There is on average about 15000V running through a TV when switched on, please be careful and unplug when changing components or refer to a repair technician. Good Luck, Jus004

Blanking in a sony like that is usually a result of a weak CRT... You can turn down the G2 and it may help for awhile, but the blanking will eventually get more and more pronounced over time. I wouldn't suggest having the tube rejuvenated either. That usually doesn't last and a shop may charge quite a bit for the effort. You're better of buying a new set.

Toshiba 35A44 - Dark picture on all channels and DVD's

for this brightness problem actually came out from flyback, before you spend and waste your money, try to adjust at back of your tv first. But if you aren't an expert, better ask technician to do because that transformer supply a very high voltage....there's two adjustment point at flyback transformer, one point for focus and the other one for brightness! try first...

How old is the TV? More than 6-7 yrs? Then it's time to do a trade in. But if you are very attached to it, get a Technician to recondition the Picture Tube. This may give it life for another couple of years. You could also ask a technician to check the DC filter Capacitor for the HT line to the Video Drive circuits. Over time this capacitor dries out and also causes a darkening of the picture. It is normaslly a 100 mfd 160V capacitor.

Picture Problem

it's very easy to fix convergence manually from the menu, unless it's really really off. there is a button on the front that is an auto focus, that should be used first, then try to manually dial it in. it should be very close after the autofocus (called touchfocus) I got mine for $400 used, and it's great!

yeppers its a g2 control on the flyback thats gone or drifted out of alighnment or the flyback its self.Try turning the g2 control dowm till those lines fade. If they wont go away then you need someone to check the Picture tube or its componets driving the crt.
