T30 wont reformat

I have an ibm t30 with xp pro loaded or was loaded on. I was having problems with windows updates etc so I did a system restore. The restore worked but it didnt , i still had programs and things loaded that shouldnt have been so I decided to run xp pro cd and reformat it but it refuses to load and get error message: drive is unformatted or damage drive,,,,is there a way to fix? It only shows one drive so I dont have option to do a partition etc. I am lost as to what to do, I dont know if hard drive is gone or if can be repaired etc.

I clicked on Boot from cd but I just get a black page saying error loading operating system , from what I understand is the cd is not bootable . I am doing the cd etc from my desktop and trying to transfer to laptop. I read that xp home cant write bootable cds . The xp pro cd tries to load but just sits there and I am back to the black screen sayings error loading operating system.

Usually what I do is make sure that the drive is totally wiped out. At least the partions. There is a free Windows NT program called delpart. You can probably google it and download it. If it will find the drive and delete the partition, then the drive is probably okay. Lenovo recommends installing the latest BIOS updates, so I usually do that next. Then in the BIOS sometimes there is a setting called compatibility mode. This is important because if the t30 has a SATA hard drive and compatibility mode is not set, Windows can't find the hard drive. The other thing is to install the drivers that help you find the hard drive when you are installing Windows. You have to hit F6 and point to the SATA drivers for this. I have done it many times, but again the t30 may not have a SATA drive, so if that is the case you might have a bad hard drive. I work with Lenovo laptops all the time in my work. If you are under warranty, the tech support people are helpful.

Download "hirens boot cd" and burn to a cd, select the machine to boot from cd, when boot cd loads, select boot cd, it will take you into a dos menu, select hard drive tools, there are a number of utilities there for you perform surface scans a bad sector checks and repair tools

good luck with it

if the XP cd has picked up the hard drive then i doubt its a sata drive unless the processor is amd in which the XP will pick the sata drives up, in intel based laptops with sata drives the XP cd will not pick up the hard drive at all unless you download the drivers from the matrix storage manager.
I don't think that this is the case here, the drive must be checked for integrity i.e. bad sectors etc, plus there is a utility in the hirens boot cd which will allow you zero fill the drive and restore it to working order

when cd boots you will have a few seconds to make your choice, do not select "boot from hard drive" the system is still looking for the hard drive to boot from

get a cd/dvd cleaning disk and clean the lens of the cd/dvd, hiren's is a bootable disk and comes in iso format or disk image, you have to burn this image onto a disk using nero or power iso, for some reason the disk is not booting, go into the bios and change the boot order to boot from cd all the time, once the problem is sorted you can change the boot order back

    regards

Sounds like you have a faulty hard drive. Can you see or detect the hard drive in the BIOS? To test the hard drive, remove it from the laptop and connect it to a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer sees it as an external hard drive and you can open the various folders and files, then it os OK and the fault is in the laptop. If the hard drive is faulty, then you need to replace the hard drive in the laptop and install Windows to get the laptop working again.

You need to download the drivers for your Netgear.
The IBM drivers also need to be found,Depending on your model, it may have WiFi. From IBM spec sheet:
  • 10/100 Ethernet installed on the system board
  • Selected models will have Intel Wireless and modem Mini PCI combo cards
  • Selected models will have CISCO Mini PCI card
  • Selected models will have Bluetooth communication daughter card

Unable to load desktop ASUS 1005HA XP SP3

Hi

It seems you are stuck in a windows loading loop

Please do the following

1) Go into safe mode (swith the pc on and keep pressing F8 repeatedly until you have a menu presented to you, from the menu choose safe mode)

2) Once loaded click on Start>Programs>Accessories> System Tools> System restore

And restore your computer back to a point before the update was done

if it still loops when using safe mode through the method shown above then unfortunaltey you will have to reformat the PC

Please can i ask that you leave feedback and vote if this has been useful

Tried to install update and computer crashed

A few ways to try and eliminate.
Upon startup F8 for safe mode: Last Know Configuraton

Hit F8 for safe mode. Go into accessories>system tools>system restore
Doesn't work then: need Windows CD setup. Let it run and hit R for Recovery Console. At the DOS prompt type FIXMBR or FIXBOOT.

No sound in my ibm T30 laptop

ok, go to start>control panel>system>hardware>device manager. then expand the "sound devices" category, try to find what looks like your sound card and double click on it to open the properties window. Then go to the "driver" tab and click on update driver....hope this helps....if you know any information about your sound card, that'd help......you can search for the currect drivers and firmware online.

Key board stops responding when windows loads

your mouse freezes; you should only use system restore as a last resort
any virus/spyware you had in the past will come back
turn the computer off(you may have to shut power off pressing on power button)
when you see ibm logo, tap F8 key repeatedly until your hear beeps or a high pitched noise
use option safe mode; use 'most recent config where my settings worked' option in safe mode(use up and down arrow keys to highlght, then press enter)
If that does not work, try another(earlier) restore pt w system restore or install mouse drivers on a cd on another laptop, then
place in cd rom and try to install it on the problem laptop
if this is no good, you should really reinstall windows, back up impt docs, etc.(delete old partition)
that model has a built in restore function by pressing F11 on startup, it will restore your piece to factory condition(along w spyware that comes along w the builtin ibm utility)
I had the same exact laptop, the fan got noisy, so I replaced it w another that was from a good t30, guess what:
"fan error"
Ibm laptops are too problematic to work on
thats why I use dell
if you need more help, msg me or post on here

I can't re install windows XP Pro on my IBM T30 2366-86u

its oem, you either need IBMs restore cd for your particular laptop (model) or an xp pro (any service pack will do) OEM disk.
You can not get the OEM disk at best buy, circuit city target etc those are retail versions and will not work. Newegg.com or frys electronics are your best bet, but by buying it from them you are getting another copy of xp pro, just use the cd with the keycode on your laptop and then you can install xp pro on another pc using the code that came with the disk. MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING AN OEM VERSION AND NOT A RETAIL VERSION.

Some technical stuff:
For the xp pro disk you MUST have the COA product key available, this is usually on the bottom of your laptop, for IBMs disk you just have to have an IBM WITH an IBM motherboard as without the motherboard it will not work. For example, the motherboard goes out and you replace it with a non ibm board it will only boot for 3-5 times, the ideaa is that this gives you time to get your documents off. This is per Microsoft agreement with ibm and all other Original equipment manufactures this include hp, dell etc.

sorry if this is too technical for you please let me know.
