Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV480 Digital Camcorder

My Sony Handycam DCR-TRV480 needs to be put in VCR Mode...

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV480. I'm trying to record video from the tape to my iMac using my iDVD program & use the new OneStep feature. But my iMac won't recognize my camera in iDVD. My iMac says in the iDVD program to put the camera in VCR Mode but how do you do that? I have looked at all of the instructions that were supplied with my camera but I still was not able to find out how to do that. What might fix this, so that my iMac will identify this? thanks for the help.

Try these steps:

1. Open the tape cover fully until it clicks open.
2. Turn the camcorder on to "VCR Mode."
3. With the cover still open and the camera in "VCR mode," take out the battery.
4. Put the battery back in--out should pop your tape.

I need to download the drivers to my computer so I can transfer the video's to my computer. Where can I download them, I tried Sony, but they don't work.

You should not need additional drivers. Digital-8 cameras will have a firewire port on them. Connect with a firewire cable to the computer and open Windows Movie Maker for PCs or iMovie for Macs. Using another movie editing application if you have one will also work.
Treat the Digital-8 camera as a non-controllable device, that means you will most likely have to start the camera manually to capture. Make sure the camera is in VCR/playback mode not record.

I think you are expecting camera to covert VCR analog video-audio signal into digital so it can be record in Macbook?

Camcorder will not do this job and you need to hookup VCR with DVD Recorder to burn DVD of VHS tape.

Put the camera in VCR mode not camera mode. Then play the cleaning tape. That should do it.

Sony Camcorder playback problem

mechanical alignment! try to record for a minute and playback the result on another player/recorder, not on your camera, if the playback is not okay then your camera needs alignment, you need pro fix. You said that you've done manual cleaning already, maybe you dis aligned the mechanical parts accidentally, applying too much force on the mechanical parts of your small unit tends to bend, dislocate or move these parts out of alignment. defective videohead will never playback good video, and you said that it seems to correct only a few minutes of playback.
