Have a Nikon D40x that with a line thru the picture

My D40x is a little over a year old. Today when we took a picture a green line appeared across the photo. Any idea what could be causing this problem?

I just noticed this green line last night wnen I took darker photos. I looked back at the previoous photos and there it was, still that consistent green line even on the days that I shot pics with good lighting.

I have had my D40 since August of last year and it has been doing the green stripe thing for a few months now. My friend suggested removing and reattaching the lens and that works for a little while but then the green stripe comes back! Is it really sensor failure?

I have the exact same problem but some of my photos get really messed up with all sorts or coloured lines and such. 1 pattern i have noticed is that it mostly happens outside in cold weather. I noticed this because a large majority of my photos are messed when i shoot outdoors in could weather. I know this aint much of a solution but its something i have noticed.

Picture does not appear on the monitor, I must look through the view finder to see what I,m pointing at to photograph

The D40x operates as SLRs have operated for half a century, offering you an optical viewfinder with which to frame and compose your picture. The LCD is for menus, shooting information, and reviewing.

Nikon introduced the live view feature, which allows you to hold your camera so it wobbles at arms' length, with the D3 and D300, released half a year after the D40x.

While almost all current DSLRs have this capability, it was not so common five years ago when the D40x was introduced.

Why the screen on my Nikon Dx40 doesnt go on- so you cant see wha yo are pictring - so I should see only through the little lense.

The D40x works as SLRs have worked for half a century. You have to compose the picture through the viewfinder. The LCD screen is for menus, settings, and reviewing pictures after they've been taken. The LiveView capability allowing you to compose on the screen is a relatively new development, which Nikon introduced into their cameras with the D3 and D300, introduced years after the D40x.

Sorry if that wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but that's the way the D40x works.

Nikon d40x issues with memory card

Sounds like the locking mechanism for your memory card is broken or defective. The only people qualified to fix that would be Nikon.

If it is still under warranty, let them know the situation.

If not, it will be around $200 to fix.

Cannot take pictures thru lcd screen on d40x DSLR

The D40x is not capable of Liveview - i.e. looking at the LCD to take a picture. You are mistaken.
If you want Liveview, you need to buy the D3 or D300 cameras. The D40x is an entry-level camera.

Faulty nikon d40

I had the same error message, the camera is less then a year old, however, I was taking up to 800 pictires every weekend of my kids soccer games, then a 6 month trip to the Pursian Gulf, that is when it started, I got back home, took it right in, and one year later after a few visits and calls trying to find out where my camera was, I finally got an answer back, they said I needed a new shutter which will cost $300, They said I should just by a new body for $400. What Nikon does is set that error message to pop up at about 35000 shutter releases, and you can't do a thing about it, once they hooked my camera up to thier system the said I had over 36000 shutter releases, where the average person takes 10000 a year and they want you to replace the body every 3 years....so before buying any camera, always check out how many shutter releases you can get when you buy a camera
