Question about Sony CLIE PEG-NX80V Handheld

Desparate: Does Clie Backup or Archive Data On Itself?

The adress book on my PC in Palm Desktop got corrupted evidently. (I didn't know this at first. I just noticed that a large number of records were gone (hundreds are now blank), however, there were still many valid records so I wasn't clear what happened. It seemed the more recent ones (last few months) were gone.) My Clie, however, had good data. Foolishly, I synched the desktop with my Clie the usual way hoping this would solve the problem, but the PC evidently overwrote the Clie and now the Clie has the hundreds of blank records too.

The .bak file on the PC is now more or less identical to the .dat file since the hotsynch updated it. And the Clie file is bad. My only hope seems to be if there is a backup on the Clie?

I'd try some sort of repair on the corrupt file except that I have a feeling it was caused by an aborted hotsynch and the blank records are toast. I also tried searching for strings in notepad and the missing records don't seem to be there.

I'm desparate. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Michael

Are you syncing the new device to the same username in Palm Desktop as an older device?
If you are, this will cause problems on the new device. When you sync the device, it saves the device settings, 3rd party apps, preferences, etc. in the backup folder in the username folder on the PC. When

you sync the new device it copies the contents of the backup folder for the old device to the new device. This will cause corruption in the settings for the new device thus causing erratic behavior of the new device.

Looks like you may need to hard reset your device and rename your backup folder

Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;

XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
folder to backup.old

Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
folder to backup.old

Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.

Show file extensions for XP or Vista

XP
If you can not view file extensions on your PC I would like you to open a
folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

Vista
Open control Panel go to Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

TANSFER DATA from SONY CLIE SJ22 to HTC TYTN2

I'm in the process of changing from SJ22 to Smartphone running Windows Mobile 6.1 and I have found a way round this by sending data as vcard to myself in outlook then opening the attachment and saving and closing - this is then sent to your device on the next sync. It is a bit long winded but it works.

Open Outlook and leave it open.
In Palm, select the address you want to send, then in EDIT menu choose Forward as vcard, send and close the outlook pop up, saving changes.
Go to Outlook Inbox and open the attachment then save and close.

Install CD for sj20

There is a wonderful website that provides installation CDs and Palm Desktop software for Sony Clie models that Sony no longer provides support for. I was able to get the Palm Desktop software with Clie drivers for my TJ25 from it. The website is http://www.sonyclie.org/. I'll bet they can fix you up!

Lost Data

Sounds like you've wiped all your data. It's a good discipline to keep a regular backup of all your Palm files on the PC so that if this happens you can restore the last backup and re-synchronise. I have had several Palm devices, and all of them have corrupted files at some point.

Clie and Palm on the same machine

Are you trying to use two different PDAs with the same PalmDesktop? That will be a problem. I switched from Palm to Clie and back to Palm, and their drivers are NOT compatible - even though they are basically the same software. Stupid, I know. At least now I can have two different Palm Desktops - one for my Clie and one for my T3. It's working for me right now. I would make backup files of everything before you load the new Desktop. You could lose all your data/programs if you don't. I learned that the first time.

Synching treo 650 with 600

In a nutshell, make sure you have a recent synch to your PC of the 600. Install the Treo 650 desktop software Synch to the username of the 600 Your are done. You should rename the Treo 600 or hard reset it (you will get data corruption if you synch two devices with the same username to one PC). If you are paranoid, you can make a backup copy of your c:\program files\palm\ folder to begin with. This contains most of your settings and extra software on the 600. As you are an Outlook user, your personal data is probably in a PST file or it is stored in Exchange.

Saving adresses

You can install and uninstall Palm Desktop without affecting the user data stored on your PC. That is one of the beauties of the Palm OS system. The uninstaller only removes what it installed - that does not include your data.
