Here is the Processor compatability list for that motherboard:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=2408

I did not see the 3.16 GHZ processor on the list.

You can download the manual from here:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/Manual_Model.aspx?ProductID=2408

Their website is slow, but it get to the link.

copy and paste the complete link into your browser.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Q9550 With Acer EQ35M MOBO

It is very likely that you simply do not have the right BIOS setup for the new processor. You will likely have to flash all your bios to get the new processor to both be recognized and to be able to recognize components on the motherboard. That is quite a jump in technology and it may be that the motherboard simply will not support the new processor period. In that case, be VERY careful buying your new board and make sure it specifically supports your processor. Sorry I could not be more help!

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

I have a dimension 2400. the current processor is a pentium 4 2.2 can i swap the processor with a intel core duo ??

After checking the specs of this here : http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2400/en/sm_en/specs.htm

i can confirm that a intel core duo would not be supported without changing the motherboard, and probably the memory too.

Can i change my computer processor?

it all depends if your motherboard is compatible with core duo processors, usualy they are. but to find out for sure you need to obtain the model number of your motherboard or the manual and find out what it can take.

a tool called Everest, can scan your computer and tell you the model number and the website for more information.

you can download everest free edition on major geek website
