Question about Sony Handycam CCD-TRV318 Camcorder

Camera does not record

The cassette seems to go into the camera alright, but when I try to record, I get nothing.

First I would suspect the record safety switch on the cassette. Look near one of the rear corners for a little red tab. If it's closed (covering the hole), then recording is disabled on that cassette.
Is there any indication in the viewfinder that recording is disabled? Usually an icon like indicator showing a cassette with a circle and slash over it.

If that's not the case, you might have a problem with you're record switch. Try using the remote to do it if you have one.

My friend dropped my PV-L501D camcorder and now when I press the record button nothing happens. I see an image and menu button works . Seem like the cassette door wants to open when I try to record .Any...


Most likely there is mechanical damage, and very possible that a circuit board can be cracked. The unit would have to be sent for service.

No display on playback


Try first a Tape cleaner and a new cassette and start from scratch... and check if your camera is not damaged internally and it is actually recording and not just spining the tape to the end and rewind to find nothing on it. You seem to need serious repair. This means it needs a tech to have a serious look at it.
