With my Ipod Video 80 gb, when I select a song it goes to the loaded page but does not play. All other functions on the machine work. In the loaded song page, I can still use all functions, like volume and menu but the song just doesn't play.
You might just have to convert the songs into a format that the ipod can read and play. Under itunes, just right click on a song that does not play on your ipod and click on the convert to mp3 option. Then transfer the converted songs to your ipod and it should work then.

You will need to wipe it clean then put all your songs back into it. Try using a different computer and then put iTunes on it and that should erase it all and then just load your Ipod back up with your music. What happens is that if the Ipod can't read the song, it stutters, tries to play that part, and sometimes skips songs.
Try plugging the unit up to itunes, and restoring the unit. You will lose all the data on your ipod, so make sure that all your data is loaded on to itunes before restoring. Also if you did not get all your songs from itunes, make sure you ran a virus scan. If the song is corrupted it is not going to work on your ipod. Also make sure the song is the right format, have itunes convert the song to be formatted right for your ipod. If none of the above work, check with Apple to see if the unit is still under warranty with this site: https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
The serial number can be found on the back of the unit toward the bottom. If you have any other questions feel free to contact www.wiredextreme.com.
Check to see if the files are in the proper format to play in the iPod. If they are not, they will not load.
I would also check to see if the hard drive is working properly. It sounds like it is not. When you connect it to iTunes, check to see how much space there is. There are probably bad sectors on the hard drive that has limited the usable space on the hard drive. . Hope that helps.
Look in the music folder (top left of the main itunes page). You should see all of your songs there. If they are there, then plug in your ipod, click on the name of your ipod (left hand ide of the screen) and check the box on the main screen that says (manually manage music). Then go back to the main music folder again, and select all of the songs, (you can do this by clicking on the first ong in the list, hold down the shift key and then click on the last song in the list), then drag and drop all of the songs onto your ipod in the list at the left.
iTunes is totally a freeware provided by Apple to help you synchronize your iPod with your computer. But since iPod only support MP4, M4V formats, I think you may need software to convert videos. Here is a link to a step-by-step guide page: http://www.aimersoft.com/tutorial/ipod-video-converter.html Hope it helps.
