Unfortunately, there is no external mic connection on this camcorder. The a/v jack is for viewing movies on a tv or transferring to a video recorder, etc.
I found this out through some reviews on the camera at this site: http://alatest.com/reviews/camcorder-reviews/jvc-gr-d720-mini-dv-digital-camcorder/po3-36078831,21/
Sorry to have to relay the bad news. The biggest complaint about this recorder seems to be bad sound quality, but there is nothing that can be done about it, unfortunately. Sorry, wish I had better news for you.
"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.
If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."
If you are getting E03 or E04 errors on every tape you try, it sounds like a servicing is required.
Unless the video is stored on the memory card you cant transfer it directly, you need a video capture device, it is an attachment to your Computer that manages the transfer of taped video copies to digital...
In the case no REEL FG is produced for 4 seconds
or more in the capstan rotation mode after
loading was complete, the mechanism mode
is shifted to STOP with the pinch roller set off.
This error is defined as [E03].
However, no REEL EMG is detected in the
1. The idler gear does not engage with the reel disk well.
2. Though the idler gear and reel disk are engaged with
each other, the tape is not wound because of overload
to the mechanism.
3. No FG pulse is output from the reel sensor.
4. No power is supplied to the reel sensor.
5. Tape transport operation takes place with a cassette
having no tape inside.
6. The tape slackens and no pulse is produced until the
slack is taken up and the tape comes into the normal
I suggest getting the PCI IEEE 1394 also known as FireWire card. Most of the time these Firewire card comes with a Video editing software but verify because you will need some form of video editing s/w to record the video. After recording then you can edit it however you like and transfer to DVD/etc.
Always a pain in the as to edit video. I've done it a couple of times. So have fun. I still have not manage to find a Video editing s/w that will do a 5.1 audio or multiple audio tracks (similar to switching between languages)
