If the monitor is cathode then chances are that the tube has gone, they work just like old TV's and break down eventually

DO NOT OPEN THE MONITOR UP!!!

The monitors capacitors carry a massive amount of electicity and some is stored in the tube, if accidently touch this the electric shock you would recieve would possible kill you, even when it is switched off!! this is not recomennded at all!

CRT monitors are cheap as chips anyway

    regards

Try checking the monitor and monitor cord to make sure they are working properly. Try it on another computer and see if the lines are still there. If they are, then you will need a new monitor and if they are not, then you may need a new monitor port for your computer. You will need that checked by a professional to be sure. If you can, open the computer and check the connections from the monitor port to the motherboard and make sure they are ok.

You will most likely have to get a new one. But first, try going through the menu settings using the button on the front of the monitor. If when you try to pull up the menu screen and the white lines are still there, then you will need a new monitor.

White images too bright

Try plugging in another working monitor into the monitor output - if results are the same then the problem lies with your video circuits in your all in one. Hopefully it is under warranty - if not you are screwed because those all in one units have nothing but proprietary parts and are very costly to replace/service. If the external monitor works fine then the problem lies with the display or screen of your all in one.

Tip

How to save power even you are still using old VGA Monitor

Older monitors(CRT type) are using complex circuit than LCD, It requires more power consumption than LCD, but you can still save power by 30% through this tip.
1.You must position or install your monitor in a dark area or position.
2.Adjust the brightness control to the level of the black part of the picture must be seen black not gray, or became white.
3. Adjust the contrast control at your most comfortable level.
4.Avoid using bright picture screen saver or blank screen saver.
5.Turn off your monitor manually if necessary.

Suddenly a very thin vertical yellow/white line appearing on my HP desktop monitor? pls help

Does it appear THE MOMENT you turn the unit on?

If it does, then you will have to run the monitor's self-test function by turning it on with the data cable (the one that does NOT connect to the power outlet) DISCONNECTED from the computer.

If the line still appears, then the monitor is faulty & cannot be "repaired". Usually, the entire LCD module is replaced.

If the line does not appear in the self-test mode, then check if it's connected to an ON-BOARD display adapter (typically found in the back of the machine, towards the middle area, towards where the ethernet cable and USB devices plug in) or a EXPANSION CARD (normally located towards the BOTTOM part in the back of the machine).

If it plugs in to the on-board slot, then the motherboard may be faulty. If it plugs in to an expansion card, then it's the card that may need to be replaced.

Of course, these are merely possibilities, but the most likely failing component here is the monitor itself. Busted display adapters very rarely, if at all, manifest these horizontal or vertical lines and STILL boot up. Regardless if it's on-board or expansion card, a failing display adapter would normally have either no display at all, or it would just simply stop booting up (screen remains dark: no lines).

The moniter looks like the horizontal hold has gone out the bottom half of the screen is black only the top half shows or there is just a bright horizontal line in the middle of the screen is it cheaper...

It is good to buy a new one because if you get it repaired even if you are not satisfied with the result what then? So my advice is to buy a new one and you will have a satisfaction of having a new one.
Thanks for asking a advice from me

I have a dell Dimension 2300 and the images are very dark. I don't think it is from the monitor.

Try these steps: 1. Check the monitor settings. Access the On Screen Display (OSD) Menu System. Adjust the contrast and brightness using the control buttons in the monitor.
2. Run the monitor self test. Unplug the video cable from the computer (cable from monitor to the back of the computer). Usually it has a blue or white connector. Turn on the monitor alone. It should display the self test pattern (white, red, green & blue). If the images are dark in the self test, it is a problem with the monitor.
2. Rotate the monitor to face a different direction. This will help in eliminating sunlight glare which can cause poor picture quality.
3. Test your computer using another working monitor. If the problem occurs in a known good monitor, then it is a video card or motherboard (if your video card is integrated) problem.
I hope these options help.

Dark screen with dull image in background

You may need to check your desktop image for your monitor and change it to something lighter
The external monitor usually uses your computer's default and not ncessarily the one from your laptop monitor

Without taking it apart myself, it could be some wiring from the laptop to the screen
