Dynex 4 port ethernet router

When I try to hook up the Dynex 4 port router, I have connectivity to Xbox and PS3 but not the computer. Tried to refresh IP, tried to enter 192.168.1.1 and get nothing. Called tech support, had me refresh, release, renew, default gateway was blank, so they said call microsoft. They wanted 80 dollars to help. Followed steps, made sure Obtain IP automatically and DNS servers were both checked. Still no good. Checked ip address it was the 192.168.1.1, checked the light, all good. Right click on internet connection and it says connected. Open up internet explorer and says page not found, type in 192.168.1.1 into the address and nothing. Other systems hooked up through the router work. PS3 and Xbox both have internet connection, but not the computer.

Computer is hooked up to connection 1 on the router.

Trying for a wired connection. OS is Windows XP, I did all these steps as were told this might help.

  1. Go to Control Panel on your computer. Then Click on Network Connections. Look for Local Area connection. RIght click on it and click properties.
  2. Look for Internet protocol TCP/IP. Select it and click Properties. Make sure that Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS servers automatically.
  3. Then, check the IP address of your computer by doing a right click on Local area connection again, but this time click on Status then click support. The IP address that your computer should have is in the range of 192.168.1.x
  4. You may also check if the Ethernet light on your router is on for your computer's connection.
So, does the Default Gateway need something by it? Cause it is blank.

When the TCP/IP is set to dynamic or "Obtain Automatically", the default gateway is supposed to blank. The default gateway address of your network is actually the router's IP address.

What is the IP address that you get when you performed step 3?

New modem installed and router won't work now

First step is to make sure if the modem is working. Connect your computer directly to modem with ethernet cable and see if you can log on to internet! if yes
next step connect modem to your router's WAN port with an ethernet cable and then connect your computer to one of the LAN ports of router with ethernet cable. Power down all devices and power up modem first wait until all lights are on and then router wait until all lights are on then your computer! 9 out of 10 times this works! try good luck!!

How to connect a dynex (dx-e402)router to linksys (befsr41) router

Configure the dynex on another computer that is not connected to the linksys router.
Assuming that your linksys is currently setup as 192.168.1.1
Turn off DHCP on the dynex and setup the IP to 192.168.1.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1
use a cross over cable and plug each ends to the LAN port on port routers.
you should now be able to ping 192.168.1.2 (dynex router) from your other computers on the linksys router network.
any computer that is connected to the dynex should be able to get a dhcp address from the linksys router.

Cant hook this up, will this work two computers

You will need to use two standard ethernet cables. Each computer will connect to each of the LAN ports on the rear of the router. If you would like to connect the two computers to the internet, you will need to connect another ethernet cable, one end to your modem (assuming you already have one) and the other end to your router's WAN port. There are additional settings you need to configure on your router if your ISP requires a login.
