Acer aspire Tick tock sound

I just bought an acer aspire 5520-5908. Running Vista SP1. 4 GB Ram.
There is this strange tick tock noise that sounds like somebody clucking their tongue or when you press down on one of those airtight bottle caps. It only happens when the computer is idle. It doesn't seem to be the fan, and I know that it's not coming from the speakers because I've muted them.
I ran a diagnostic, it shows no bad sectors on the HDD.
I don't think it's the Cd rom drive either because I've never used it and I know what a lens cming to an abrupt stop sounds like.
Are there internal speakers that it might be coming from? If so what might be causing the sound?

Hi,
sounds like the HDD acessing, try removing the drive. boot the computer up without it in.
and boot into the bios usually F2 del Or esc at bootup.
Don,t do anything in the bios setup. just listen to see if the sounds still there.
if it,s not there, you could assume it,s the hard-drive.

if this solution solves your problem, please rate as Fixya.

Many thanks for using fixya s free Forums.

If there is interference affecting the speakers, muting them makes no difference, you will still hear the noise, you have to find out the cause of the interference, the motherboard does have an internal speaker which you cannot dissable, this is because the speaker is there for "beep codes" this lets you know if the computer hardware develops a serious problem

good luck

My acer aspire 5742-7653 internal microphone is not picking up sound. what's the fix for this?

go to the sound mixer(double click on speaker mark on the task bar). and then click on option, and then properties.you can see dialog box with recording and playback settings.
first mark on playback , and check activate the mic on that, if not put the tick on selection box.
then mark on recording. check the mic activation same as that. then click ok. you can see recording mixer.
OK now check have an advance controller button near the mic controller . if not click on option, and check have a tick with the advance controller. if not put the tick in frount of addvance controller. now already you in recording mixer. now you can see that button.
after that, click on "select" check box with the mic and increase the level to top. then click on "advance" controller, and put the tick on mic 1 boost. then close all windows and check the mic,
using via some recording software (like as windows sound recorder ), or activate the mic for working with speakers via put the tick on the mic tab on playback mixer. ( when that can hear like some siren noise , pull down the mic level to control that)

Acer aspire one slow running on skype video

That system is upgradeable to 2 GB DDR2 RAM (one stick) which would probably help, but if not there's really nothing else upgradeable in that system. Going with the current costs of RAM (when shopping online, like at newegg or zipzoomfly) it would be worth it to upgrade it just to give it a try and see if that does help.

Laptop shows only 4gb ram & 300 gb hdd

This is the limitation of a 32 bit (x86) Operating System. A 32 bit OS can detect upto 3GB RAM only.

You may either try installing the x64 Bit of XP Operating System or Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 for 32 bit Vista Operation System to resolve the issue.

After installing the SP 1 or 2 of the Vista OS in the Computer, the OS will detect 4GB RAM.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sound card for acer aspire 5315-2153

Go to your speaker icon on the desktop, double click it to bring up the mixer. Your Mic is muted by default. Just take the tick out of the box and you should be away.

If your running Vista, then goto Start-Settings-Control Panel-Sound
You should find the settings box for your microhone there. If not, then do the same procedure as for XP, but only click the speaker icon once and select mixer.

Hope that helps =)
