I recently picked up this 50" Toshiba RPTV free from a friend who upgraded to a big plasma, and didn't want to try and mess with this one.
One symptom I've noticed is that the screen will go from being normal brightness to suddenly much darker. I have attempted to re-converge the image with the convergence board I unscrewed off the front of the TV. Although when I attempt to align the colors, it will sometimes be fine, normal colors, normal brightness, and I can get the picture relatively converged, but then one of the colors seems to flubber around. It then seems to switch from normal brightness to darker brightness and the convergence is completely different from what I was just converging.
I haven't done anything other then tool around with the convergence board, and I gave it a well needed dusting.
Thanks for any help, ~Trevor

- To sum up the above. The convergence does NOT stay. I forgot to mention that my specific model # is 50UX7K, manufactured in 1991.
Anyone help greatly appreciated,
Thanks much,
~Trevor

- Thanks for the help, I'll replace the STKs and see if it helps!
->Oh yeah, the RPTV is a HITACHI, NOT a Toshiba, which I mistakenly typed above!

- I ordered replacement parts for all 4 of the STKs, they should come in a few days.
Can you explain a little bit more what a Hyper Module is? And where I might find it? I've looked through the service manuals PDF but haven't found it yet. Does it have a different alternative name?
you "tooled around with the convergence board" well this chassis has several problems if the convergence doesnt hold replace both stks resolder around that area per tosh tech bulletin the bright problem is probably the hyper module all toshs should be checked with toshiba website to see if they were part of the recalls for power supply caps
