Question about Sony STR-DA3000ES Receiver

1 Answer

When I power on my Sony STR-DA3000ES is gives an error code that first says "STREAM" with "(unlock)" below it, then goes on to display a flashing message "PROTECTOR" with solid "check code 22" below it, then turns off.  What does that mean? How do I fix it?

there are not yet speaker cables connected.  It happens when the unit plugs in and powers on without any connections to it yet.

Incorrectly connected speaker cables is a common problem that is easy to do, but easy to fix. Check your connections.

If it does this without ANY connections to it at all then a short can't be to blame. At this point, I'm doubting the next step will work but it's worth a shot before sending it back to where it came from for repair.

Plug it into the outlet, and when you press the power button hold it in until the unit "clicks." It might take upwards of 15 seconds to do so. Then try again to power it on.

If the problems still exists then it sounds like the amplifier section may be damaged.

May I ask about when exactly was the first time it did this, what was connected?

Error code 11 protector unit has no speakers

My only suggestion on the above information would be to reset the receiver. You can do this by first turning off the receiver. Once the receiver is off, hold the Power On button down for 5 - 10 seconds. This will reset everything to the factory settings.

My str3000es when turn on the screen show STREAM UNLOCK and PROTECTOR THEN turn off by itself

Check all of your speaker connections at both ends for looseness or any stray wire strands. If they make contact with the chassis, this can and often does cause the electrical short that is making the receiver go in to protect mode. The protect mode prevents electrical damage to the amplifier.

Once you have all of the above verified and fixed, try to power it on again.

STR-DA2000ES, STR-DA3000ES and STR-DA5000ES:

Doument Reference: E23914196
Subject/Description: "Protect 21" is displayed when connecting to speaker/powered subwoofer combo

Protect 21 is displayed when connecting to speaker/powered subwoofer combination model such as the SA-VA7000ED. The problem was also found to occur when connected to the Definitive Technology POWER MONITOR 500 and POWER MONITOR 700 series speakers.
The DC detection circuit is triggered when the speakers are connected.
Add a 4.7k metal oxide film resistor across capacitors C1319 and C1329 located on the D-AMP board.

Hope this helps. =)

There is a defect in the final amplification stage of the receiver. This may have been caused by a short in the speaker wires. The typical defective parts are the output transistors. Expect a parts cost in the $40 range for this repair. Any audio service shop should be able to repair this.
