The 5 "buttons" on the right side of the control

The button pad is usually connected to the control board with a ribbon connector. They can become slightly loose, with vibration, over time. If you open the unit up, you will see where it will be near the control panel. Detatch it and reconnect it. If it's a different system connecting the panel to the board, check any wire connections (disconnect and reconnect, ensuring they're tight), or solder joints for cracks, or cold solder joints (coudy looking joints, not shiny).
It could be a bad component, but since it's recurring, it's either an underengineered control panel, or a bad connection of some type.
Inspect it carefully, reconnecting any loose connections.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Clock/timer light elements are burning out in my kitchenaid microwave model KBMS 1454R. I need the procedure for replacing the clock/timer display.

should come in the package with replacement parts. With whom do you deal? Is there a Johnstone Supply near you?

I have found a great resource on the WWW for otherwise obscure answers at They have the parts you require and they have a answer guy there that is as good as a auto parts counter guy.

I hope you have found some value in these comments.

How do you replace the fuse in a microwave oven.

Be sure the oven is unplugged or the breaker is off.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here.

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Let us know if we can help further.

KitchenAid KBMS1454R 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

Sounds like the keypad is okay, unless it might be intermittent.

Your wall voltage is within the proper range.

It sounds like it might be bad connections on the control board causing functional and display problems.

I work on control panels, actually, but I can't find any service data (yet?) on this model.

There should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Did you find it?

Any chance you could scan and e-mail it to me?

Please feel free to contact me directly.
