Shea,

If you want Vista the only way you can "Download" it legally is to buy it from Microsoft direct. and download it through their download center.

But if your computer came with windows Vista on it you should be able to get the restore disc from your manufacturer for SIGNIFICANTLY less. Usually just the cost of the disc and shipping.

If you don't like Vista, why do you want to put it back on? Is Win XP causing problems?
If so if you describe them and give up what Model pavillion you have we might be able to solve those for you instead.

Hope this helps you
Dave

did you go into the bios and change the boot order to boot to the cd rom first? Then it should boot to the disc. Otherwise you may want to use any xp/vista disc do the install dont insert a cd key then once windows boots up then put the disc in and try a recovery.
Thanks,

I have a HP Pavilion dv9720us notebook running Vista. Since I performed a system recovery it will no longer acknowledge the CD/DVD drive. I have tried several times to redo the system recovery but still...

Try following this, XP, Vista, and Windows 7 seem to run into this problem.
It will remove the high and low filters, forceing the machine to regenrate and it somehow finds the drive again.

Recently got this machine from my daughter who got a new machine. Re formatted hard drive, installed XP, working great, but after about a week, I lost the sound. Any ideas?

1) we will 1st go to device manager and check the drivers
2) check if the mute is checked of unchecked

3) if the driver is not there in device manager then we will go and install the sound drivers from HP.COM

4) we need to check the os if it came with vista of xp
if vista then u have downgraded the os.then it can be the issue with compatablity

5) if it was working after installing xp if sound was there then we can do system recovery

6)
we can do recovery(last option)

Dont like vista so I let my nephew take vista off of my Pavilion notebook...not good idea..want to put vista back on but it seems I was suppose to create recovery discs. Can recovery discs be downloaded...

check to see if there is a recovery partition first, to do this press F8 on boot up, if you have no boot partition then you have to go out and buy a OEM copy of vista

Only if it's not an HP labele operating system disc. Otherwise you will need an XP operating system disc, the HP recovery disc with XP will not work with your Gateway or any other manufacturer machine other than HP. The operating system on any manufacturer recovery disc is assigned to that specific manufacturer, so if you try to install from the HP disc it might install, but it will only give you thirty days, then shut down, or it won't install at all. It will be cheaper to purchase an XP operating system disc than all the software over again just for Viiiiiista!!! (I enjoy making fun of Vista) If you have anymore questions or need help feel free to ask.
