Depending on what you need to do, you may or may not need the ScanManager Software. If you simply want to append a TAB rather than a Carriage Return, or disable the 0 in front of UPC-A barcodes, this can easily be accomplished using the manual.

It is only with rather complex operations (say, omitting the account number on fedex barcodes, resulting in a scan that only returns the tracking number), then you will probably need the software.

If you have any questions, let me know.

The barcode reader eclipse ms5145 powers on,the laser light blinks and beeps at scan by not scan the barcode

It could be either one of two things, first of all will this unit scan any barcodes, or is it just one particular one it will not scan. If nothing scans and if no special programming was added to the scanner I would consider defaulting the unit back to factory settings. This procedure can be found in the manual that came with the scanner or here is a link *** If you are going to do this please confirm that no special programming was done to this *** but normally they are ready to scan right out the box. So scan the barcode to "enter/exit configuration" the unit will beep tree times, then scan the "recall defaults" and the unit will beep once. Then scan the "enter/exit configuration" once more. Then try to scan a retail barcode. Hope this helps.

If the scanner beeps just once after a scan, than he recognize the barcode and sends the data to the computer. If you dont receive any data, you are waiting for them on wrong interface. Data from USB or KeyboardWedge do come to Notepad/Word etc. The data from Serial RS232 Connection can you see only in Hyperterminal or similar application.

My symbol barcode scanner beeps 4 time while I try to scan. The Manual states that the battery is bad. I replaced the battery & it does the same thing.

This 4 beeps also stays for communication error. Please check the connection to the cradle and also the connection between the cradle and PC.
You can start by pairing the scanner with cradle with the Pairing barcode, then defaulting the scanner to the standard settings - use the barcode "Set All Defaults" from the manual. Then select the right host type USB, RS232 or another.
After this procedure should the scanner work.

Scanning is extremly slow

What interface? If it is a USB interface the scanner sends the numbers the same as if you had entered them on the keyboard. If you do just enter the barcode (need to know format actually sent to application) numbers does it also respond slow?
Plug the scanner into another PC/laptop, open notepad and scan a barcode, does it scan fast?
The POS application, if it is windows, open notepad and scan the barcode, does it scan faster.
It is likely the POS application that is responding slow.

For the POS applicaton:
- Is scan database local or on the network.
- Have you maintained the scan database? Re-index, compacting, etc

Extra zero

The default setting for this scanner is EAN13 enabled. This means that all 12 character barcodes will be changed to 13 characters by adding a zero in front.
How to Disable:

Open the manual that came with the scanner (it's available to download on the Cipherlab web page if you don't have it).
Find the UPCA Parameters barcodes (currently page 29). The next heading down is Convert to EAN13. You will see the disable and enable barcodes.

1) Scan Enter Setup Barcode (on practically every page of the manual at the bottom). The scanner will beep 6 times.
2) Scan the Convert to EAN13 Disable barcode. The scanner will beep once.
3) Scan the Update barcode at the bottom of the same page.

Your scanner should now read both 12 and 13 character barcodes correctly.

Hope this helps:)
