My Tomtom One used to work fine until recently. Now whenever I try to insert the memory card into the Tomtom the card is simply rejected; it seems as if the Tomtom mechanism to hold the memory card is malfunctioning.
If I keep the memory card pressed, the Tomtom reads the card but the moment I let go of the card, it slides out again..
What do you think could be the issue here?

Not sure which model year you have but check for a small reset button on bottom press and hold it with a paper clip or similar. Also try holding the power button for a minute to see if it reboots, try removing the memory card first. If it starts don't insert the memory card until the unit is off. If that still does not work click on the link below which will explain the reset in detail. Thanks for using FixYa
#1 Insert your ( memory card , flash disk , cellphone , .... ) into your computer. #2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives. #3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive. #4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'. #5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place. #6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
If you have an SD card installed then
Remove the SD card from the tomtom
The card may need to be formatted properly first or re-formatted.
Formatting is better done in a card reader.
There are differing views but this method has always worked for me.
Insert the card in the reader,.
Using my computer or windows explorer right click on it and select format
select FAT32 as the files system
Now connect the tomtom to the pc but don't let tomtom home run. Exit TomTom Home if need be.
You now need to select your tom tom which will also show as a drive and may even show its own special icon.
In windows explorer select tools then folder options. Click view and tick the box for "show hidden files and folders" It may warn you but you can ignore it.
Then just copy ALL the files from the tom tom to your sd card.
DO NOT USE CUT AND PASTE !
Once all the files are on your new card switch off the tom tom and insert the sd card and re-boot the TomTom
It should now work.
If not try the hard re-set in which you would use a paperclip to reset the tomtom. there should be a tiny hole on the underside of the unti. push the paperclip in there (not too hard) while the unit is switched on This would cause a reset to factory defaults (you may have to set home location etc)
You may also have to switch off and re-boot again for it to take effect.
You can not use a sd card from one TomTom and put it into another TomTom. The operating system on the card is coded for each individual TomTom device. First try doing a reset with the card installed on your dads TomTom. The reset hole is on the bottom of the TomTom marked reset Use a streightened paper clip, insert the paper clip into the hole until you feel a click then hold it in for 20 seconds. If that didn't work and you have a card reader insert your dads sd card into the reader and make a backup of the everything on the sd card. Just copy and paste everything on the card to a folder on the desktop you have created on your desktop. Next delete everything on the sd card EXCEPT the maps and ttgo.bif or ttgo.bak file. Now that you have made a backup and deleted everything on the sd card except for the maps and ttgo.bif or ttgo.bak open TomTom Home. TomTom Home should see your card and install the operating system back onto the sd card. If it doesn't you may have to insert the sd card back into your dads TomTom and connect it to the pc. It may take a few times of doing this to get the latest operating system back onto your dads TomTom. You can do the same for your TomTom, but you cannot use any thing bigger than a 2 gb sd card. Do not get sdhc cards they won't work. This will only put the operating system for your TomTom onto the sd card. When you have installed the operating system onto your device it will say "no maps found", you will have to buy the map from TomTom..
Hi,maybe that the memory card is knackered! (tomtom ones are poor quality and slow) Have you got a spare card that you use in a camera maybe, if so format it using fat 32 on your computer and then copy and paste all your files one by one onto it. I this works I would recommend a sandisk ultra 2 as a replacement card, worked for me!
delete everything on the card with windows i.e. double click on my computer select whatever drive letter it has asigned to the memory card in your TomTom unit, then select all and delete. Then restart TomTom home copy relevant software across or use the backup facility and everything worked just fine.
If you want to play mp3 songs from sd card then create mp3 folder and place all the songs in side that folder. Now when you go to Juke box menu it will scan all the songs and you will be able to play them the way you want..
I had one for 6 months and had to return it to the store because it stopped locking onto satellites. It sounds like the hardware fault. Did you try the reset button? It returns it to its default factory settings.
