Cd drive problem

I recently got my cd drive replaced,4 weeks later and i,m getting "power calibration error" when i try and burn a dvd,and also get "try other disks",i been using 3 diff brands since the trouble started, same problems,it says the device is working ok when i open the properties in the drive,it burns cds but wont burn dvds,i,m getting annoyed with it,i dont wanna end up buying another drive.

my laptop is a toshiba satellite l20
cd drive is matshita dvdram uj 841S

i was told maybe the drive needs reinstalled but i have no idea in doing so and i,m not very computer literate to be fair,so any diagrams would be welcome or a complete list of tests to do,with explanations in the test,i,m at my wits end with the cd drive as i need to get important stuff off my laptop

Uninstall the cd device in device manager then reinstall, but, instead of asking the pc to do it automatically tell the pc to search the internet for the drivers

hope this works for you

ok here is how to get to "device manager" right click on the "my computer" icon, select the properties tab (at the bottom) this will bring up a new window with muliple tabs "device manager" is there on the top row and select that, look down the list until you find cd roms click on the + and it will drop down to reveal the cd/dvd, right click and unistall, it will dissapear from the list.
Reboot the PC and let if find the hardware again, i might prompt you to install drivers, just click next until your done

    I hope this helps

    kind regards

DVD drive read/burn problem

From the description the new DVD driver is defective and should be returned if still under warranty. The only concern that I have is the replacement you got is identical to the original and that it is not a aftermarket product, because they don't have the same specifications as the original.

All of a sudden i can't burn any DVD with my DELL 1510 laptop, but i can read DVD's.I get error message with nero "fixation error" and "power calibration error".I'v tried re installing...

Nero's "Fixation Error" means the laser has lost power and cannot "Fix" or burn data to the disk anymore.
Replace the drive. Check ebay for a good price.
Hope this will help.

Sir i am using acer aspire 4720z. i am not able

Most likely your drive needs to be replaced. In most cases that means hardware problem related to the laser. But there is a chance that one trick will help you. If you are running Windows XP click Start --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools -->Services --> IMAPI CD BURNING COM SERVICE -->right click (on IMAPI), select properties --> Start up type drop down menu, select disabled --> click APPLY at the bottom. Reboot. Try to burn your disk.

Toshiba satellite a65-s1762 dvd-ram drive problems

Take the laptop *and* your DVDs/CDs to a qualified technician.
It seems like the drive is "intermittently" failing, and needs to be replaced.

Not able to write dvd on my lenovo3000Y500 laptop

A power calibration error is caused by the inability of a DVD-RW drive to use a DVD-R or DVD-RW disk, it first writes a bit of a data on the DVD then uses it to calibrate itself for the position of the lines. This however can be caused by a number of reasons, so try the following options one after the other, If option 1 does not work, go to option 2, etc.

1:) Matshita has problems with some cheaper brands, get yourself a very known brand DVD as a test like pioneer or tdk

2:) Using a higher speed than the media is meant for, try lowering your burning speed in nero, try the lowest even, let's see if helps

3:) You have a Lenovo as you say. If it comes with Sonic, please uninstall Sonic first, then uninstall nero, then install nero again. Sonic and nero tend to conflict. But even if you do not have Sonic, reinstall nero and apply all new patches.

4:) If option 3 did not help, update the firmware, that helps in a lot of cases.

5:) If even option 4 did not help, disable IMAPI Service (Work's in most cases):
- Launch Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services .
- Browse for "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service", Right-click on it - and select properties.
- Change Startup Type to Disabled.
- Click Apply and Reboot.

6:) The burner lense needs cleaning, please don't attempt this at home if you are not a mechanic, take it to service they will clean it.

7:) Drive failure, or drive burning out -- then it needs to be replaced, if none of the above helped that is.

If you overlock your computer that can also cause this problem but since you use a laptop I assume you did not overclock it. Let me know if any of the above helped and what the results were.:)

Problem with matshita dvd-ram uj-850S

Your DVD drive was probably misaligned, probably due to some force applied to it such as when you mistakenly added two DVDs at the same time. Or it may be a factory defect. It is difficult to calibrate a DVD drive or any drive for that matter because of high precision needed.

You may try however to just clean the lens which may have been blocked with dirt. Just eject the drive, you will see the lens somewhere in the middle of the platform. Use a drop of 10% alcohol on the tip of a cotton bud and clean the lens without applying too much pressure.

CD / DVD player not listed as device on Windows Explorer

Try physically removing the player and fire up the laptop. Power down the laptop, replace the player and power back up. If that doesn't help, see if BIOS recognizes it.
If that doesn't work, get back to me.
