when i star up my PS3 then sony playstation comes up then the background stays they with no log in screen what can i do

finally !! solved the problem :)
unfortunately the story has not the best ending ...
i had an old non-working laptop with 80Gb hdd.
I took the PS3's hdd out and replaced it with the laptop's one. Playstation did not recognize the file system and suggested to format the hard drive. Formatting was done in 10 seconds, after that system rebooted and logon screen appeared again :)
all saves from games, all music, pictures, videos and downloaded stuff are lost :(
fortunately you can re-download all purchased games from PS-Network for free.
now I have a 80Gb PS3 istead of 60Gb ..
hope this will help you too.
P.S. i've seen that Linux has support of PS3 file system. maybe this will help to restore all saved data.. but this is just my assumption

I have the same problem :( yesterday everything was great. today I
turned it on. "Sony Computer Entertainment " shows up or somethingafter
which a logon screen should appear immediately... and nothing .. just a
screensaver (some purple waves) ...

Start up the system just a red screen appears with the sony entertainment logo and the wave graphics and then nothing happens it just stays that way

after about 5 minutes of playing time the screen turns green and then it freezes!
