Question about Refrigerators
I woke up to water all over my kitchen floor. Noticed water running down the freezer door.Opened the door to find that the ice was melting and everything in it was defrosting. Opened the refrigerator to find that it was not cold. Lights and fan is working. I can hear a clicking noise like something wants to turn on, but after a few seconds, it clicks off again. My husband says that it probably needs free-on. We purchased this back in 2002 and it is no longer under warrantee. My last refrigerator lasted at least 20 years before anything going wrong with it.
FREON would be a WORST CASE scenario...
Not actually likely mfgomes... Hello,
If it were FREON the refrigerator would be trying to run...
just not getting anywhere...
My 1994 Amana needed a control board after
about 20 years... It is counter depth, stainless
with all the bells & whistles...
I Fixed it and I am DELIGHTED...!!
Expecting another 20...
Take a look at your control board... WATCH the VIDEO..
check the price...
I think you will like what you see.
(there are many part houses... This is just my favorite
SEARS... was my least... but they got a little better))...
also see partselect & repairclinic
(avoid 1stservall... like I still avoid SEARS (shame on me)).

Purchased in 2002? Dump it. Not worth repairing.

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

I had the same issue. It was the relay overload which essentially provides the extra boost to get the compressor going. The switch tries for about 10 seconds before giving up and then retries 3 - 4 minutes later. In the early stages of failure, eventually it will work and the compressor will kick on. But eventually the switch will fail and will just cycle through the 10 second attempt every 3 to 4 minutes. The part is about $35 - part number 67005560.

HI thanks for your question. yes that drainage hole must be cleared. unplug fridge for at least 24 hrs, pull fridge from the wall. remove back plate. clean all coils. locate the drain tube by the drain tray. put a small hose up the drain tube and blow to clear the debris. thanks the appliance doc. please rate my answer. thanks

hi, this is a control panel board failure. this will unfortunately have to be repaired by the whirlpool tech. the main sign for control panel failure is the uneven temperature that you are experiencing in the refrigerator.the control panel has lost its ability to maintain proper temperature. i would take a look at the thermostat as well. it may need to be replacing.

Look at the back of the freezer wall from inside the freezer. Is there frost on it? If there is, you need to replace one of the components of the defrost system. If there is no frost then you need to have a repair made to the sealed system, it is either out of gas or the compressor is running inefficiently
