Same thing here. Washes, then won't spin or drain. There's an unusual buzzing from the timer. I removed the front panel and moved the belt. It's not frozen. I opened lid during aggitation (the machine not MINE!) and it stopped so it's not that. The noise from the panel is very suspicious.

Can anyone tell me where the filter is in 70 series Kenmore washer? I have a dog that sheds and I know the filter needs to be cleaned to prolong the life of my washer.

Couldn't find the filter but we did blow into the drain hose and it easily bubbled in the tub. I just replace the switch/timer ($80 part) and no change.

    Thanks,

    Jill

I had this same problem. Took a pair of scissors and stuck it in the lid manual thingy( female here and dont know the manly term for piece) the part that the thingy goes in when you close the lid- anyways made it spin manually and works like a charm now.... not sure what happened to it.
It would wash and all but when it got to the spin cycle it just stopped. Glad I didnt have to spend any money right here at Christmas on a dang new washer.

WOW! We found the problem. There was a 1.5" piece of electric fence wire (from my husband's shirt pocket) that got wedged in the pump. We took that out and YIPEEEE!!! We're washing again.

Kenmore 80 didn't drain during the spin cycle and leak underneath machine. Makes buzzing noise in the wash cycles.

The pump is likely damaged if it was leaking. Look for a ring of melted plastic on the face side of the pump. Check to make sure the hole is not rounded where the motor shaft enters the pump.
I'd replace the pump just to make sure the washer doesn't flood some time in the future even if the pump turn out to be ok now.

Series 70 fills wit water stops then makes a slight buzzing sound

The electric motor my have failed or a part called a capacitor could be the problem? The capacitor is part of the starting circuit of the electric motor, if this fails the motor will not start therefore the washing machine won't spin or agitate.

Check the lid switch. That is a VERY common problem on these models.

Kenmore 70 series agitates but does not drain or spin cycle.

If the unit is not draining or spinning it sounds like a lid switch. If the unit is draining but not spining it sounds like a drive coupling.

Kenmore Washing Machine 70 series

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.
