Frigidare ice maker making slabs of ice, not cubes
Why won't my icemaker make cubes. Also it has started to allow water to go to tray in front. I tried turning up the controls to make colder. But all i get is slabs, not cubes. It actually jams the auger.
Re: frigidare ice maker making slabs of ice, not cubes
Today, I removed ice maker and auger motor. Found out this morning that water was running down the back of frig. inside, everything in freezer was frozen together. Found this out after removing all food from freezer. When i looked into the ice maker where water enters, that was frozen solid. After thawing and checking everthing. I put it back together in freezer. It is nine oclock now, and I do have cubes. I really can't tell you what I did, except thaw it all out. It's been running for four hours now and it seems to be all right.

Yes. On most refrigerator ice makers by the front panel on the right hand side there is a small screw adjuster that controls the amount of time that the water solenoid closes to admit water in. Adjusting it changes the size of the ice cubes from small to large or vice versa.
The ice maker does its own thang. All it needs is power and a good water valve to supply the water. Also you paid the water bill helps too. Anywho when the temp in the ice maker mold drops below 25f the harvest cycle begins. The mold heater is activated and loosens the ice. When the ice starts moving the heater shuts down and the motor carrys over and drops the ice. The ice maker then asked for and gets water from the water valve. So what goes wrong? Watervalve solenoid burnt out, water valve dripping like a faucet make a stalagmite in the fill tube blocking fresh water to ice mold. If that is ok then something inside the icemaker went haywire, replace it. When replacing the ice maker replace the watervalve. Note: if temp inside icebox freezer does not get to 25f any ice maker new or existing ain't gonna make ice. Be sure to clean the coils down by the compressor and the kickplate so the maximum amount of airflow is running down there and make sure the cardboard panel back there is in place.
The first thing to check is to make sure that the temperature in the freezer is below 10 degrees F. If not the ice maker will not work because the sensor in it won't allow it to call for water. If the temperature is good, check to see if there is ice in the ice maker. If there is and its not dropping ice then more than likely the mold heater which allows the ice to break free and thus be ejected has gone bad and you need to replace the ice maker. If no ice is there check the fill tube to make sure there is no obstruction, and if not turn the ice maker off, wait a minute, then turn it back on, When you do that a small amount of water should initially come in. If it doesn't then the water valve itself has failed. Also a note, check the water filter to make sure its not old, this too will also cause water not to come into the machine but you'll notice this also in the water dispenser area as well.
no water to ice mker / look at the water valve in the back it is a two sol. valve one side for water and other for ice .. also the tube in back of freezer that fill the ice mker may be frozen .. ( hot water up the tube will open it .. mm
This could be either your water valve or you need a new ice maker. The water valve is less expensive than the ice maker, so either get them both or start out by replacing the valve. Call or email us with the model number and we'll be sure to get the right part out to you. Hope this solves your appliance repair issue.
