Question about D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router (DI-514)

1 Answer

Cannot reset or access configuration page.

I tried to reset the router following the instructions on the manual and this forum but it refuses to reset. I tried the reset hole for more than 20s and the wlan light does not stop blinking. I am not able to access the router setup page either, tried the usual, is like it is not connected to the pc, although when I disconnect the lan cable the pc detects it was disconnected. Thanks for any help you can give me. regards, antonio

Re: cannot reset or access configuration page.

Assuming your pc has previously connected to the router, why did you require a reset. Remove your RJ45 cable and try reset button for 10 secs then let go. The other problem I see is you cannot connect through both wireless and wired to one IP address, you say the wireless lan light flickers and then say it knows you have removed cable, are you trying to connect via two different computers or just one. Please reply on this post and not a new one; it's hard to follow.

SOURCE: di-514 does not reset

If you go into the tools menu of your router the restore button also restores to factory settings instead of reset button.

SOURCE: cannot reset or access configuration page.

The PC will detect a closed loop within the Network cable so forget that. Sorry but the router is bad if you cannot access it and the reset button does not help.

Try reseting the Linksys back to the default settings by -
Power up the router and press and hole the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router for 30 secs.
The Linksys configuration URL is
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

Where do I find the WEP key code on my modem model number 2247NWG

the network administrator (whoever configure your router) should have the wep key you're looking for, if you're that person and forgot your wepkey you need to reset your router so you can go back into the router configuration page and reset a new key (and hopefully you'll remember it next time).
here some instructions for your product:

check on page 14 (FAQ) of router's manual
resetting router to default configuration (router's manual)

good luck!

I have a wr850g router which has worked well for 3 years. I tried to configure the network to have a security access code. Partway thru the process I lost access to the router and cannot now reenter...

If you lost your password, you need to reset your router to the factory default and configure it from scratch.

Pull out your router manual or download the PDF file from this ( Follow the instructions from it to:
  1. find out your logon details from your service provider
  2. reset your router to factory default
  3. use a network cable to connect the router to a computer to re-configure the router

Forgot password

If you are referring to the password to access the internet, you will have to reset your router and start over again with new passwords.

To reset the router

There should be a very small hole at the back of the router. Insert a paper clip and gently push and hold for about 30 seconds. Your router will now be back to factory default settings.
Using your manual, follow the instructions to access the router configuration page.

Hope this helps.

Tried to secure my wireless connection, but all I did was stop my UTStarcom adapter from getting internet access. I now can't log onto my UTStarcom router setup page anymore. Can't I just reset this? I can...

Symptom You are trying to access the Belkin router’s Web based Configuration page and you are not able to do so. You can access the Configuration page from any computer behind the router.
Resolution To address this issue, follow the instructions below:
  1. First check for the physical connections between the computer and the router. There should be a cable (cat5 or above) running from one of the LAN port of the router to the Ethernet card in the computer.
  2. If the computer is wireless, it should be associated to the Router/AP.
  3. Check for any firewalls (Mcafee, Norton Internet Security) on the computer, which should be disabled.
  4. Check for an IP Address on the computer in the range of the router i.e. 192.168.2.x (x can range from 2 to 254). The router also assigns an automatic IP address to the computers in the range 192.168.2.x (x can range from 2 to 100). For instructions on how to check the IP address on the computer, Refer to Article 13.
  5. If you are not getting an IP Address on the computer from the router you will need to manually assign an IP Address to the computer.
  6. You also need to restore the Internet Explorer browser to its default settings.
  7. Go to Control Panel and click Internet options. Select the Program Tab and click on Reset Web Settings.
You should be able to get the router's configuration page if the above instructions are followed in order.
Cause You not being able to logon to the router's configuration page could be due to the following reasons:
  1. The computer is not able to establish connectivity with the router (wired or wireless). This can happen due to physical reasons E.g.: Improper cabling, bad cable, and no wireless signals.
  2. The computer not getting an automatic IP address from the router (DHCP ** assigned).
  3. Firewalls (Mcafee, Norton Internet Security) on the computer blocking the communication between the computer and the router.
  4. Improper browser settings (Internet Explorer)
** Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
Summary The Router is a configurable device and you can manually log into the router’s configuration page to set its various operating parameters like connection type, security features and options to update the router’s firmware.

Username and password

You will probably need to reset your router to get access to it again with a known username and password. BEWARE THIS WILL PROBABLY RESET ALL CONFIGURATION INFORMATION AND YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETELY RECONFIGURE YOUR ROUTER INCLUDING POSSIBLY ISP SPECIFIC INFORMATION. If you cannot do this including knowledge of all the required answers and proceed anyway you may lose access to your internet connection until this is successfully done. Proceed beyond this point AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Follow the link below to determine the model of your router

Router Link

As your profile indicates you are from Australia -- there is a link at the top of the page for a DI-624+ that may also apply to you.

If this does not work or your model is not a DI-624 as indicated try the following Assuming you have a DLINK router

Go to
Choose your country
Choose Support
attempt to access product information -- if your model does not appear there may be legacy products link on the page to choose

Download your user guide.

The following link may provide an emulator for your router to allow you to preview the configuration process (this does not configure your router. You may have noticed this emulators link earlier when accessing product information above, if you could not use the link.

Emulators Link

Doing this will may require you to configure specific ISP required entries into your router to restore internet access, I do not know what those requirements are now. I may be able to research them if you provide information about your internet service provider such as their web site or help/support web site. Be aware that you will require all answers for this before doing it as you may not have internet access again after starting this until you successfully complete this. With all the previous warnings in mind you can consider the following step.

Using the instructions in the user guide you can probably reset your router and get access to the configuration.

Either get the person you got the router from to give you the pass phrase or try accessing the link on this site to get a manual

The instructions to reset the router will probably set the entire router back to the factory default configuration. After which you will need to configure any changes required by the ISP into your router.

Dougerus -- you might be able to help Robbyn by telling her what your manual says about resetting the router. In your case are you following the instructions to reset the router completely? CHECK THE MANUAL you may need to hold the reset button for several seconds for a reset. A short push might only reboot and not reset the router.
