Similar problem...I came up with a solution with help from Onyko. For my receiver, at least, the bottom line was that the output from the equalizer MUST go to 'Receiver, Tape In'! Since that is the ONLY input source from the equalizer, you must combine elsewhere. Part of my setup included the Radio Shack Audio/Video Selector box which costs $21.99...you might not need it, but in my case, I couldn't plug all components into the back of the receiver and have them go through the equalizer.

Since I have a satellite receiver, DVD player and TV, that I want to route through the equalizer, here is the way mine is set up and working:

Satellite receiver and DVD player out to Radio Shack audio/video selector

Audio/video selector out to VCR in.

VCR video directly to TV

VCR audio red/white (audio) out to equalizer

Equalizer out to Receiver Tape IN (Receiver Out not used)

Hope this (or a variation of it) helps.

Can I hook up extra speakers to a dennon dra 397 I have more than 3 rooms in my house I want to hook up? Any info would help. Thanks

you need to get a speaker switch box to make sure the impedence is correct. If you try and hook more than one speaker up to a single channel on your receiver, you will blow the amp

Dennon DRA 697ci with bose 901 speakers.....just moved to new house....hooked up stereo and can only get minimal output

I assume it used to work. You need to ensure the connections to and from the active equalizer are all proper. I would think you have it in the Pre-Main loop.

It sounds to me like you have an in/out reversal at the EQ or a dead Tape Monitor selected.

Or MUTING is selected on the DRA.

I have a Denon AVR 3805 receiver. It does not have a Main Amp in or a pre Amp out in the back. How do I properly hook up the Bose 901 equalizer to this receiver? I use the 901 speakers as surround...

By properly, you must mean WITH the Active EQ.

According to this picture, you're in luck BUT...

(Short answer from personal experience.)

There is no way around this part. Get a separate power amp for the 901's if you want to use them in a multichannel way or alongside non-901 speakers. A good 100-wpc amp will do. (I like Carver)

Connect the Active EQ between the Front pre-outs and the amp input. Run speaker assignment, levels, etc and have fun.

Helpful Hint: If you don't have sufficient between-speaker room for proper reflection off the front wall you CAN turn the 901's around and you won't believe the amount of air these things push! I have actually felt it ten feet away after explosions or crashing ocean wave sounds. Now THAT is multi-media.

Trying to hook up bose 901 v to sansui 8080db is

Just remove the Pre-Out to Main In jumpers and connect the Active Equalizer there. This way it will affect only the power output to the amp and speakers but not to any of the Tape Loops. If you need more, look around on Fixya for 901 advice and you'll find about a million posts by me for many scenarios, including multi-channel.

I have Bose 901 series 5 and would like to hook them up to HD Tv with AE receiver. Can I do this and what kind of receiver do I buy? Thank you Chis

I assume you mean you want the 901's to be part of a multichannel audio system as the front speakers. Your controlling electronics will dictate how the 901's integrate.

The following is general high-level advice to get you on your way. I have 901's in my 7.1 A/V room, so it CAN be done.

Bear in mind that 901's require exclusive use of any amplifier they use. You shouldn't expect to use conventional speakers alongside them on the same amp.

The reason is that the 901's require the use of their dedicated Active Equalizer to shape the frequency spectrun to match their drivers' response curves, resulting in a flat sound output. Applying that kind of equalization to any conventional speakers will sound to sharp at the extremes and may even potentially damage them.

If your rig has Pre-Outs for the Front L&R channels you're in luck. Just task them to through the 901 EQ to whatever amp you choose to run the 901's on. Set levels and you're off and running.

If no pre-outs, it gets complicated and some compromises will need to be made. Get back to us on what your control amp/receiver is and we can continue this - or search Fixya for 901 advice. I have written a ton of these for people. One may fit you perfectly.

Connecting the 901 series VI equalizer

hello

please make sure your receiver has a tape monitor switch on the front panel or pre-in/out sockets at the rear. only then all sources will play thru the bose equalizer. also remember if you need a 5.1 or greater setup, you will need 2 amps/receivers.

hope this helps

- Bose 901 Series I and II speakers have 8 Ohm impedance each.
- A row of 3 speakers in series gives you 24 Ohm.
- 3 parallel rows gives you finally 8 Ohm.
