I'm sure if you do this, you will be able to play your American DVD's!
1. Turn on the unit. 2. Open the loading tray. 3. Press the "Setup" button on the remote. 4. Navigate to the "Preferences" page using the right arrow key. 5. Enter 138931. 6. You will now see the current region code displayed 7. Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the region required or "0" for all regions. 8. Press the "Play" button on the remote. ALL THE BEST!!!!
It sounds more like your burning laser went out. DVD and CD Roms use two seperate lasers. One for reading and one for writing. I would check with the manufacturer to see if it is still under warranty to have it replaced
You need to force the player to the the Top Menu of the disc. The way to do this is: load disc, wait until it says "Reading Completed" (about 1 minute).
Wait for the PLAY icon ">" to show in the upper right corner (this may take up to 30-40 secs).
Once you see the ">" Hit the STOP button on the remote to get to the player's splash screen.
From the Sharp splash screen Hit the "Top Menu/Title List" button on the remote and wait for the circulating dots and then the disc menu appears. Play the movie from the menu and you should be good to go.
I have checked other sites and found out a way around it. Right click on the desk top and select properties, this will then give you the option to connect to external applicances which include the tv. All i need to do now is work out the sound and i am there.
Considering the DVD player is inside of the unit, and the unit will not play a DVD (I am assuming you put in a DVD) while in DVD mode, the conclusion I would draw would be that the unit is defective and should be returned.
To give details to this deduction:
DVD Mode has power, just is not producing an image. --Known because it can play games.
By mentioning that your disks are finalized, I am thinking that you are not creating the DVD in the proper manner. For DVD's to play back on commercial equipment, they have to either be authored, created from a ISO file, or cloned, bypassing the copy protection imbedded in many titles.
Do a Google search on DVD authoring or cloning to learn how to sucessfuly create DVD's that will play back on your home player.
