Playstation wont detect my hard drive

I just bought a Lacie Gold hard drive.

I reformatted it from FAT32 to NTFS so it would work better with my laptop whichis Windows XP SP2.
Now however, my playstation 3 cant detect it- Ive found out PS3 orks also in FAT32!!

How can I reformat back to FAT32? My laptop only seems to allow me to format in NTFS- is there a download available?

thank you

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: deleted 4 folders for lacie silverscreen 500gb

Dead easy, simply attached the SScreen to your PC/Mac and create the four folders:
"Movies"
"Pictures"
"Firmware"
"Music"

It requires these four folders to boot the OS!

SOURCE: Cross platform backup drive format/partition

Fat 32 is the only system that would work on all 3 os's direcly.
You could use NTFS if you only write those big files on windows, you could read it on both linux and mac.

NTFS 250 (or ext2)
HFS 120
If you need to use the last partition on of the operating systems the fat 32 would work here, but as you know the problem with that. Looking at the wikipedia page ext2 would also work.

SOURCE: I immediately reformatted my LaCie

I had exactly the same problem with my Lacie Rikiki Go USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive. I formatted it before runing the setup assistance software and now it shows only 10 MB capacity. I think the solution would be to download the setup assistance from somewhere and run it but I couldn't find it anywhere in the web.
Is there any other solution?

Hi Jay
Check the formatting of the lacie. Macs can read and write Windows formatted drives except those formatted in NTFS, which they can only read.
If you can read the drive, the chances are it's an NTFS formatted drive.
If you need to use it on both systems then you had better reformat it with the FAT format.

Lacie 300790 that my Mac won't recognize

the Mac may not recognize it if it is formatted with NTFS. I believ most Macs can read FAT32 and other formats but not NTFS. You could hook the drive up to a modern PC, transfer the files there for a while, format the external drive to FAT32 and copy the files back to the drive. The Mac shold read them now,

Lacie extern. hard drive is recognized, but I can't access files

Try connecting the Lacie to another computer, if it doesn't work then the hard disk may need to be formatted using Disk Manager. I suggest you format as a primary partition in FAT32.
If it doesn't work then it is possible that the hard drive in the Lacie has failed.
To test the hard drive, remove it and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If it deosn't detect it as an external drive and you connot open folders and files then it is faulty.
You can install a new hard drive in the Lacie and then format in FAT32
There are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

I have a Lacie 320gb external harddrive which was connected to an eMac and is now connected to an Acer laptop. I've reformatted it as NTFS and it shows up in disk management as healthy but does not appear...

you need to give it a drive letter

A more reliable way to do this is via the computer management console

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer management / Disk Management.

Your drive should show up in here.

if it says Healthy and just above that gives the file system eg. NTFS or FAT32 etc it should be fine but may just need a drive letter.

If it does dot say any of those then right click on it and use the format option. Select how you want to format it (NTFS for XP is preffered)
and then tell it to do a FULL format. and also give it a drive letter !
It may take a while but I find it more reliable overall.

If it didn't have a drive letter then right click and use the Change Drive Letter and Paths option, then add a drive letter and use the one it offers.

I like to re-boot just to be sure windows sees it properly

Reformat my external drive to NTFS

The only risk associated with file formats is that a drive formatted with FAT32 file system will not see NTFS formatted file system, whereas, a drive formatted with NTFS file system will definitely see FAT32.
To make it clearer, this means that, if on your system, your hard drive which is having the operating system installed on it, is formatted with FAT32 file system, and you bring an external drive, or even a backup drive which is formatted with NTFS file system, and you plug it to your system, the system will detect it but it wont be able to access the full drive capacity, you will just see it in the device manager page that it is connected.
But If it is Vice-Versa, the NTFS formatted drive will detect the FAT32 drive.
Now in your own case, if your system is formatted in NTFS file system and you plug in your external drive which is NTFS formatted also, from what you have said, I suspect that you have some hidden partitions on your harddrive (the 250GB), so when you plug it, try and do this, Right-Click on my computer icon, select manage, then go to Disk Management Option.
On the Disk management option Page you should see ALL the drives installed on your system, including the hidden ones, so what you will just do is, try and locate the one representing your external drive, and right click on it. then select "Change Drive letter and Paths", and give the drive any new, unique letter (i.e alphabet) different from the ones already on your system, and click on OK.
If you see any other hidden drives there, do the same thing to it.
This should make your External Drive to be detected automatically.
Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!

The Mac OS can't natively write to NTFS (it can write to FAT32 however). But if you install MacFuse followed by NTFS 3-G on OS X then you'll be able to write to your NTFS drive.

Drive Full After Backing-Up Just Under 4gb of Files

Are you trying to create one giant zip file or something similar? It sounds as if your Lacie 250gb hard drive has been formatted with a FAT32 filesystem and you are running into the maximum file size limit of 4gb minus 1 byte. Try just copying your files without using any compression utility or try reformatting your Lacie 250gb hard drive with the NTFS filesystem instead.

Open Administrative tools, Computer management applet; under storage, disk management. You will probably need to partition and reformat. If this drive is used only on XP machines, then format NTFS, otherwise FAT32.
