Dust inside the cd player could be causing problems.
You need to try playing a cleaning cd and follow the instructions that come with it. You can also spray compressed air to clean out the cd portion of the stereo. You can also try unplugging the unit for 20 minutes and then plug it back in. Make sure your cds are clean and not too scratched up. If the unit is under a year old it may still be under warranty. If this does not resolve the issue you may have to have the unit professionally repaired. If the unit is not worth repairing you may need to buy another unit.

To clean the cd will involve disassembling the main unit which I dont recommend as things are tightly crammed in and difficult to get to.
As for adjusting you will need an oscilloscope and a deep understanding of cd players if you dont want to risk burning your laser out.
If you do decide to clean inside the player, use a good quality camera lens cleaner with some lint free swabs, this will often improve things if the player has been used in a smokey enviroment.
I have the almost identical MD373. Tune to the station you want, press MENU/NO, right arrow (either one will work) to "P. Memory", press ENTER/YES, use arrow keys to select the number you want to assign to, then ENTER/YES again. This system won't let you assign to a number higher than the first unused preset, so the first preset must be number 1. Options to erase one or all presets are on the same menu.
