Acer Aspire 3690-2970 Memory Upgrade

Without looking at my laptop's max memory limitations I ordered two 2GB matched memory sticks off eBay. Before installing I realized that 2GB is the limit. What do recommend I do? What is the effect of adding more than limit? Should I just install one stick? Do I remove old 512 stick also? I'm a little confused at this point.

Note: Memory sticks were advertised as a 4GB upgrade for the 3690. I purchased from Krex Computers in IL. They are manufactured by Golden Mars (NB-DDR2-2GX2).

Don't try to load both sticks, your computer will not recognise anything more than the maximum allowed. And could cause problems on your laptop. Take out your 512mb stick and install the 2gb stick on its own.

I hopet his helps

Your laptop may just not recognize and not even boot up if you exceed the memory limit. It will not harm the laptop if you give it a try with the 4gb. However, sometimes caution is a good thing. It all depends on what you are trying to do on your acer. If you haven't already, remove the old memory sticks and replace it with the 1 2gb memory stick. Work with it for a little while (this should not give you a problem). If you feel the laptop is still too slow....let me know...I will look up the compatibility with the memory and your laptop.

Can I upgrade my acer 5315 memory to 2GB with two 1GBs in two slots or I can put two 2GB slots adding up to 4GB? Thanks

You can upgrade it to 2GB (MAX) if icon_detail.gifMemory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 2GB
Slots: 2
Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.

Hope this helps.

I have Acer laptop Aspire 5570z module Zr1 with memory 1GB I want to increase memory 2GB or 3GB Is it possible or not What will be the expenditure?

Your laptop's RAM is upgradeable to up to 4 GB using two DDR2 533/667 MHz SODIMM modules.

So your upgrade options here are:
1. Buy a 1 GB DDR2 533/667 MHz SODIMM module & install it to get a total RAM of 2 GB (Price around US$ 25).
2. Buy a 2 GB DDR2 533/667 MHz SODIMM module & install it to get a total RAM of 3 GB (Price around US$ 45).

Hiya I have just fitted a 2gb upgrade to a aspire 1362 wlc but it will only recognise one bank of memory - I have tried them individually and they both work - just both won't work together - is there...

Questions?
Are both of them 1 GB?
Do they both work individually in each slot?
This laptop will only work with 2 1GB memory sticks.
If the memory works in each slot, the slots are physically ok.
If each stick works in each slot, the memory is ok too.
If one of these tests fail, you have found the culprit.
Check these things and then check the bios. I don't think there is a limiter in the BIOS.

What kind of ram?

just look for notebook memory type ddr2, ddr2 all have the same amout of pins, you will have to remove one of the sticks of ram and replace with a 1GB or remove both and fit 2 x 1GB sticks.
