Question about Dehumidifiers

Open Question

Hampton Bay HB50-n won't turn on.

Hi,

I have a hampton bay hb50-n dehumidifier that won't turn on. I turn the dial to the max position and still nothing. The fan won't come on either. The outlet that it is connected to has power. It is about 5 years old. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

My Hampton Bay HB30 dehumidifier is still running, but no longer produces any water. The fan is running, you can feel the air moving. In addition, it will not turn off with the switch.

The filter and coils might be clogged with dirt. Turn of the unit and unplug it. Look at the filter and coils to see if they need cleaning.

Dehumidifier tripping the breaker

be very careful - with the unit unplugged - try shorting the capacitor with an insulated screwdriver. if you get a healthy spark - the cap is probably ok. if you don't replace the cap. the cap is used in the motor's start winding.

CHANCES ARE THE DUAL CAPACITOR HAS BLOWN APART...YOU WILL KNOW THIS IF THE SIDE WALL IS RUPTURED. THE CAPACITOR IS LOCATED TO THE RIGHT OF THE COMPRESSOR MOUNTED WITH 1/4 HEX SCREW..PART NUMBER WILL BE 50150115N001..AROUND $17-21.00.
