The hard drive has failed, that is the "clicking sound" you can hear from the machine.

Hp pavillion dv2500 laptop- LEDs glow, fan noise may be heard briefly, display remains black, and computer fails to startup or boot

This sounds like the possibly infamous Nvidia GPU defect. It is caused by heat, over time the solder fractures and separates from the board. Typically the solution is either repair it (temporary fix) or get a new board and hope for the best.

Just purchased an A6 certified preowned. After about 2 miles, a clicking sound is heard in the left wheel well. Last for a few minutes then stops. Sounds like a blinker noise, or an igniter on a gass...

Sounds like your CV joint is going bad (Constant Velocity joint) they click when grease has escaped. They have a rubber boot around them to keep dirt out and grease in. And with age they crack and grease leaks out. You can see them just behind either wheel.

I'm running an HP Elitebook on Vista - it's only a couple of months old. All of a sudden it has stopped booting properly. It runs for about 5 minutes on each screen and then fails to load the desktop....

AVG is useless. Sounds to me like you are working the HDD to hard. (heat is the factor).

If there is any sort of clicking/humming sound coming from the bottom, it's the HDD.

HP's are known to fail quickly. You pay for what you get.

Sounds like the protection relay for the speakers constantly activating, indicating either a short circuit or high bias current on the amp power supply. A qualified tech would be able to say easily with the right gear

My Asus netbook won't power up at all. The last time it powered up I was able to login then I heard a whirring sound and the screen went black. Now there are no lights whatsoever on the netbook.

The whirring sound came from the hard disk - either it has died or thepower sent to it was too little to make it work .
Remove the battery and try to boot in the BIOS with the netbook attached to the charger - if you can't do that then you have a hardware failure. Remove the hard disk and try again - if it fails even now then the motherboard is gone.

Laptop fails to boot. no post beeps no video Power light comes on Hard Drive light comes on briefly and the Drive can be heard spinning up then stopping. Laptop was originally purchased in North Korea

Clean first its ram module edge connector with soft eraser. But disengaged first its battery, power source and completely shutdown.

Then put it back and try to boot. If this doesn't help let me know . Leave a comment.

Clicking sound from new PC

If the system boots normally, then the clicking sound is probably not the hard drive.

When a hard drive has the "click of death" it is usually associated with a failure to boot to Windows.

The clicking could be several things, fans, CD drives etc. If the system is running normally, it may be something minor.

If the system is 5 days old, it is under warranty. If you are concerned about the system, take it back to best buy and have them look at it (It should be free, as them first.)

The cd may be bad, or if the power supply is just marginal, it may be failing when the cd motor spins up.
